Nowadays we have one bad boy -- Carlisle -- and apologise profusely to all and sundry when he sledges -- SLEDGES! -- an opposition player.

Good Lord, do you remember the furore about that "incident"? Cap'n Pugwash was demanding that St Kilda be purged from the competition, wasn't he?

Yet the club was so cowed by bad publicity over earlier incidents that they meekly submitted again.

One could easily argue that the meekness was directly responsible for the last eight years of mediocrity. Certainly it was responsible for a recruiting
philosophy of drafting choirboys who can't kick.

What is it with Ruckmen and the Saints.
He unfairly became the whipping boy and the ruckmen we got rid of him for and held onto played a grand total of three matches this year - and I don't think they were three full matches either. Luckily Marshall came on.
Hickey was never developed properly due to our amateurish coaching in the seniors and in our reserves. Amateur hour.

I could raise the unprofessional lack of preparation of the China shambles and our final match against Sydney, both of which were disgraceful but what would be the point?

Again - poor coaching as evidenced by the way nobody advocated for Jake. Wouldn't have happened in Alan Jeans' day:

Playing sport at any level requires self confidence and confidence in team including structures - and particularly if you compete at high levels

Hopefully (and I have reason it will be the case) we will in future see players encouraged and challenged to show their team mates, the Club and the football world exactly how good they are

And we find out we do actually have a number of A Grade footballers at the Club

That Hickey was traded and we retained Longer and Pierce was a commentary on the Club at that period of time

As was the appointment of Geary as Captain (and I give no credibility to a player vote because what are the ramifications if the players vote out the Captain?)

Past Stewart to Richmond and Barrot to St Kilda I know very little except Stewart went on to win a Brownlow at Richmond

What I do know is that Barrot then went to Thebarton as Captain/Coach of West Torrens

My recall is sketchy but I don’t recall Barrot remaining at Thebarton more than 1, maybe 2 seasons

His performances in the SANFL were what they were - definitely not match defining

the mcevoy trade looks worse in reality as it landed us acres (who has never been a top ten b&f) not dunstan.
we ended up with pick 17 and 18. one or own, one from the hawks. we drafted dunstan, then acres. if we had not done the mcevoy trade we would have taken dunstan anyway.

McEvoy is only mediocre though.

I have no issue with trading him out.

The only issue was that the draft was compromised.

Brilliant.

But we had Longer! Hawthorn wanted Longer and ended up with McEvoy - Hawthorn & McEvoy dodged bullets there.

I've said it before, the year we took McEvoy ahead of Rioli was the year that cost us two flags (maybe). The jury is out on whether Lyon would have played him.

Firstly. You're wrong. He was equal 8th in 2018.

Secondly, he was runner up in 2017 when they finished 12th, and he was about 8 votes ahead of Hodge and Ryan Burton FFS.

He's Ok. Nothing special. Not a hack. Not a gun.

Certainly improved under Clarkson, but a bit 'meh' about trading him.

Seriously?

Hale, Bailey and McEvoy all rucked in flags for Hawthorn.

Bailey FFS!!!

Hale played in 2!!

Schoenmakers played in a Hawthorn flag FFS. Spangher played in 1!!! Suckling played in 2!!! Hahaha!

The old "he played in a premiership so he must be a gun" argument is up there with the most moronic calls of all time.

In 2015, he wasn't in the top 25 in the comp for Hitouts.

Wasn't in the top 40 in the comp for contested marks. Hickey was ahead of him. So was Vickery!!!

He wasn't in the top 200 for Marks. That's not a typo.

Shenton took more marks than him!!!

He was average. Nothing more. Decent in the past year or two.

Vardy and Lycett are premiership ruckmen!! Neither can even get a game 12 months later.

By the way, the Sun is doing an article on every club's worst moves during this trade season.

Were we the worst? I reckon not (Fremantle by far) but the other clubs have some shockers too! (Hamill!)

This is true and I'm sure the club who has won two of the past three flags will feature heavily from 1980 to 2015. It can change quickly with a strategy, savvy recruiting and some luck.

Lovett sponsored by R. Lyon with character reference from Sheedy - unequivocal shocker. Tom Lee = an accurate commentary on Mr Watters and another shocker. Difference now is we have focused hard nosed professionals making the calls and its reassuring. Lyon had strengths but so many flaws and blind spots - costly in the end. Never came across a Watters strength.

Watters = T added to Water = weak as.

I don't think Watters had a chance to show any strengths with all those knives stuck in his back...

From the sound of it, Watters wasn't adverse to sticking the odd knife in himself.

Goddard on Open Mike was fairly scathing in his assessment of Watters. He didn't flame him as such, but his version of his exit at the Saints, didn't paint Watters in a great light.

The more you convince yourself McEvoy is average, the more you probably believe it.

He’s been the number 1 ruck at a good club since leaving the saints.

Has played 200 games and won premierships

You actually can’t deny the facts

What? We found Hickey MkII - his name is Rowan Marshall.

Ryder is just a backup
