I agree with the idea of cancelling the season as we know it. A best case scenario now would be to play around 12 games. It wouldn’t make a ‘premiership’ almost meaningless. Play as many games as the situation allows then a couple of ‘finals’ at the end but don’t award a flag.
The draft is going to be interesting given that the players who would be drafted will be lucky to play at all this year.
Agree remboy, my suggestion would be to encourage a larger list in 2021 & contracts extended by a year. That will allow for 3 to 5 players being added. Then gradually cut each year after.

Gil the Dill will be obsessed with trying to have a 4 week finals series even if there are say only 8 rounds.

He’s a moron and only cares about the $$$ over integrity.

Apparently 17 is the safe number
17 games increases the likelihood of a completed season.

Surely you're smart enough to understand 17 is less than 22? And 17 allows all teams to play each other.

Maybe not...

Surely you’re smart enough to understand that currently and actually before round 1 started that there is no safe number of rounds to play.

Perhaps that’s skeptics point.

Of course Australia is different to every other country in the world that’s why we can also keep schools open

Maybe not....

How did it work out?

Did the idiotic plan not last one round and then they went to one of the suggestions that clearly made more sense.

It was beyond idiotic. Amongst all of the unjustifiable aspects of going ahead with round 1, could you imagine the optics of having testing and medical resources being redirected to footballers throughout this crisis.

It was a matter of when not if the game got paused. Seems like you just prefer no plan at all.

You’ve clearly backed yourself into a corner here haven’t you arguing that a plan that failed dismally is better than then plan that should have immediately and did eventually go ahead.

The argument from the get go was making plans that didn’t make sense... that we’re definitely going to fail because they were ill thought out

on the brightside. we were so close to an undefeated season, on the downside, it could be our first winless season since 1902!
oh, and it wasn't just that we let north run all over us, we did so against a team with a one man bench. i saw nothing from the coach to stop the run on. i did see the same st kilda style and lack of fight that richo delivered us.

This is hilarious that you think that. Very amusing.

As said from the start, the logic behind a 17 game season makes sense, because 17 is less than 22. This is now the fourth time someone has had to explain this basic math to you. Do I need to go into how many weeks there are in a year?

No one played the man. You just offended because someone called out a stupid post.

Wow. Some of the most incoherent dribble I've ever read.

I'll give another go given you find this concept difficult to understand... Given they are on pause for two months, 17 is leaps and bounds more manageable than 22 games.

You seem to be arguing a complete cancellation of the season, a discussion I have never been a part of. Safety? Once again, never contributed to that discussion around safety.

You said there was no logic in 17... but there is heaps. They might not play again, in which it doesn't make a difference, except a very logical attempt to fit in a season of football.

Looking forward to another dribbling, confused reply... happy to explain it for you again and again. I have a lot more time on my hands now.

Agree, it seems straightforward to me that 17 rounds was a sensible and well considered decision at the time. The fact that only one round has been played has no relevance to the 22 to 17 argument - except the AFL is in a much better position to complete 16 rounds rather than 21, if the opportunity arises, much more flexibility. A completed season does not look very likely at present, but at least the decision gives it the best chance.

Yes.I agree. I only hope Eddie McG and his mates, who push TV dollars above everything (sneakily by pedaling dodgy but reasonably sounding arguments in his breakfast show) doesn’t get his way by creating some ridiculous ‘Final 10’ for an extended finals series.

It probably won’t happen anyway so it’s all academic.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Apparently 17 is the safe number
17 games increases the likelihood of a completed season.

Surely you're smart enough to understand 17 is less than 22? And 17 allows all teams to play each other.

Maybe not...
You’re still going with this?

How did it work out?

Did the idiotic plan not last one round and then they went to one of the suggestions that clearly made more sense.

You’re not much of a lateral thinker are you

How many games left to hopefully have a completed season?

It was a matter of when not if the game got paused. Seems like you just prefer no plan at all.

Better than a no thinker.
You’ve clearly backed yourself into a corner here haven’t you arguing that a plan that failed dismally is better than then plan that should have immediately and did eventually go ahead.

The argument from the get go was making plans that didn’t make sense... that we’re definitely going to fail because they were ill thought out
You’re now conceding this point

This trying to save face is now becoming pathetic.
You played the man, you were sat down.. own it and move on

The logic makes no sense because if 17 games can go ahead there’s no reason why more couldn’t
It’s not safer, it’s no more practical... it’s not less of a burden.
And it didn’t work out.

It was illogical and it has been found out to be so

There is no rationale argument that a 17 round season was more likely to go ahead then a 22 game one.
It’s either unsafe or it’s not.
It wasn’t

And it’s clear you’re on your own here even though you’ve conceded every other point like it was never safe
And it didn’t work

Keep swearing it was a good idea though (despite the fact that it went against all relevant logic)...

Better hey 17 is less than 22 right
Well 1 is less than 17 and 0 is less than that

What do you think was the safest

This is a very good, well thought out post.
