Re: Saints Heading for Noosa
My vision for a floating stadium in Port Philip Bay moored off Fitzroy street would have paid dividends....just tow it to appropriate quarantine state waters. Using Zac "towwball" Jones of course.
I suppose Sunshine Coast is better than other Queensland locations because it is direct flights but I couldn't help thinking flights will be chartered privately and this wondered if the Capricorn Coast, like Rockhampton, Yeapoon, Gladstone etc.. would have been better. Rocky has a long Rugby history and AFL too. More if a bubble, less tempting distractions .....Sunshine Coast looks like temptation city.

Re: Saints Heading for Noosa
with weekend traffic it'll be more like three hours. worst place for them to stay, but no doubt the bigger teams got first choice.

Re: Saints Heading for Noosa
Carlton had to play Geelong down at Kardinia Park/GMHBA and they still managed a win. I cannot see anything to be gained by looking at why/how/what if/is it fair/who isn't happy
We have a very good chance to go 5-2 and there should be nothing but positive talk and focus on getting the job done against 2 weaker teams.

Re: Saints Heading for Noosa
30 minute plane flight. Who knows? They may be staying in a supporter owned resort at a huge saving. The could drive the night before and motel it. They will have Maroochydore all to themselves and can surely work out access to gyms, pools and other facilities. Even Sunshine Coast Stadium maybe. Noosa is so much better than the GC IMHO.desertsaint wrote: ↑Fri 03 Jul 2020 11:25pmwith weekend traffic it'll be more like three hours. worst place for them to stay, but no doubt the bigger teams got first choice.

Re: Saints Heading for Noosa
Supposedly they are staying at RACV Noosa.
I’ve stayed there.
Big 2 and 3 bedroom apartments - really nice spot.
The conference areas could be converted to a big gym if we can bring up our equipment by train/plane/truck

Saints definately training at Maroochydore. Ground surface is pristine. AFLQ staff this morning were clearing the new offices and change rooms that have just opened making way for the saints to move in

Re: Saints Heading for Noosa
Great news! Maroochydore only a 30 minute drive from Noosa. I'd be excited if I was a Saints player. Beautiful weather and downtime would be awesome. Swimming, surfing, fishing. Not as many temptations as the GC either. I'm very envious, hopefully the boys are excited.Ten Fourteen wrote: ↑Sat 04 Jul 2020 1:07pm Saints definately training at Maroochydore. Apparently will be using training facilities at Maroochydore complexsunsaint wrote: ↑Fri 03 Jul 2020 4:25pm facilities and grounds (noosa tigers) are poor to say the least - Im betting they were given an offer they couldnt refuse
Maroochydore would have been better accommodation, training and grounds
Melb Storm are already at the new sport facilities at Kawana ( and beating the roosters last night they have clearly settled straight away)
My immediate thought tho was to be based in Townsville - they have played up there several times already
Accommodation, training facilities, and "home based teams" could host visiting sides two games a weekend plus a mid week

AFL said we can't accommodate the training needs of all clubs on the Gold Coast.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sun 05 Jul 2020 9:25amMakes for a 4 to 6 can trip home, celebrating the win! Winning!!!
The AFL called for volunteers to go to the Sunshine Coast and do a long travel.
No-one volunteered.
Then the AFL looked at who needed AFL money the most.
St Kilda was voluntold.

Re: Saints Heading for Noosa
It's probably a 30 minute flight from the Sunshine Coast airport to the Gold Coast airport. But it involves bussing to get to and from each of the airports, adding time and complexity. So loading/unloading and transit time probably adds a further half hour at each end.
So a flight would save maybe an hour and a half travel time at best. That's not even considering the added cost of the exercise.
1 bus, all on, all off just once, everybody accounted for, nothing left behind [hopefully] sounds much simpler.

the trouble with your theory is that prices in Noosa are through the roofolder saint wrote: ↑Sat 04 Jul 2020 12:23pmBecause this is what happens when the AFL controls the purse strings you go where your told, China, Noosa, Cairns, the moon....
While we are in so much debt and the AFL prop us up they are our pimp.
Rich n snobs
Possibly a big reason is the nightlife up there stinks in comparison to The rest of the sunshine coast (which noosa arent part of) On the financial flip side only Hanners & Hille will be able to afford the restaurants so there may be a reason for the decision

Re: Saints Heading for Noosa
Noosa is good for quality of life, BUT it is a long way from Metricon Stadium and the GABBA.
Freo almost could walk.....Saints area 2.5 hour bus ride away. GABBA is almost 2 hours away. So even our closest games are much worse than the GC teams will have at either Metricon (very close) or the GABBA at 50 minutes.
For games in other states it is a 1 hrs 40 minutes away to the airport. Other teams are 50 minutes from Brisbane Airport and 30 minutes from Gold Coast Airport.
Travel wise we got the worst deal. I am not sure that we will get to use the Sunshine Airport much.
