Was he?
Probably crossed over.

Trout left at the end of 2018 and Wilkie was drafted in the 2019 rookie draft which would have been November or December 2018.
Trout stood down in June, packed his office up in September. Gallagher joined in August and took over 4 weeks later.
Trout was a Melbourne private school recruiter and was well connected there. He was scouting the big athletic African kid Tom Jok from St.Kevs as a possible rookie. Jok trained with the Saints but not surprising was swooped on by Essendon when we took South Australian Wilkie at no.3. Lots were dismayed at yet another HBF on the list.
Where did Trout end up? Anyway, Essendon dumped Jok and Trout in 2020.

Just checked his LinkedIn profile, it says he is Volunteering at Essendon.

Good luck to him. As Long as he is not volunteering at StKilda.
He was a Covid cut and so was his good mate Shaw.
When Essendon went to the Hub they were laid off and told their part time jobs wouldn't be there when they came back.

Anybody want to bet that the "volunteers" at the Dopers aren't being paid for some other BS task?

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. You are incorrigible. What colour us the sun in your world, B.M? Complete bs and the worst part is, you know it. Elshaug may have been sweeping the corridors, but he had nothing to do with recruiting when Wilkie was taken. Just stop bullshitting to try and make your spurious fantasies real.

He was definitely at StK at the end of 2018

There was footage of him in the room when we recruited Max King.

Wilkie was recruited in the Rookie Draft the next day

I too think Elshaug is not responsible for Wilkie, I believe our Pro Scout would be the man who should take credit.

Maybe Richo should get the credit? He gets the blame for all the poor recruiting in his time?!

This article points to Chris Toce as following Wilkie at state league level in SA.

Love what Wilkie brings.
Very composed, very reliable.
Looking forward to seeing him taking on added leadership and mentoring the back line.
Quality addition to the list.

Elshaug is volunteering at the dopers, Joffa? So they're paying him what he's worth.

Elshaug is/was always a prick and one I was against the club having anything to do with him.

The Saints drafted him in the pre-season draft 1989 with pick 29. The bastard retired as he didn't want to play for what he regarded as a s*** club.

Late Rookie Pick
200+ games
Multiple times top 5 in B&F (inc a RU)
Captain for 5 seasons
Agreed, would be our best value recruit by a fair margin only challenged by Milne.

Some others off the top of my head excluding trades:
- Milne off the rookie list among the best of all time small forwards.
- Sam Fisher B&F, AA from a pick in the mid 50's.
- Clint Jones was a fair rookie
- Jack Steven & Aussie Jones were picks in the 40's
- Andrew Thompson was a pick in the 60's or 70's
Jimmy Gwilt was pretty handy too, 100 game player at pick in the high 60's & one of the best players in the 2010 final series.

I think Jarryn was the 148th picked player after the national draft, pre season draft and rookie draft

And the doesn’t count 21 upgraded rookies

HTF did he go the low? I believe he won the Bendigo Pioneers B&F

In context he went about 140 spots below Armo

Armo had an ok career and you’d almost take it with pick 9

Geary has been a far more valuable player than Armo. IMO if you had a first round selection that played 200 and skippered for 5 years, you’d take it with both hands
