"The AFL has announced that the state government will allow a crowd capacity of 50 per cent at the MCG and Marvel Stadium to start the 2021 season.

It means that the traditional season-opener featuring reigning premiers Richmond and Carlton on March 18 will be able to host a maximum of 50,000 fans. From March 4, Marvel Stadium will be allowed to host 28,961 people, which coincides with the opening game of the pre-season community series, featuring Carlton and St Kilda.

Crowd capacity for GMHBA Stadium in Geelong and Ballarat’s Mars Stadium are still being negotiated.

In a statement on Friday morning, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan welcomed the return of greater crowds, after a 2020 season in which the bulk of the season was played in Queensland.

“Footy fans in Victoria have been excited about getting back to matches and we have seen that with great numbers across the opening rounds of the AFLW season,” McLachlan said.

“We haven’t had footy crowds this big in Victoria since the match to support Bushfire Relief in February last year, so today’s announcement provides a big boost for our players and fans in the lead-up to the season.

“Our team has been working extensively behind the scenes planning for multiple scenarios and all our venues will be ready to welcome fans back into the stands come next month.″⁣

The AFL said that ticketing arrangements would be released in coming days for the season, but that club members would be prioritised.

Tickets for the AFL’s pre-season series will go on sale from Monday (March 1), with club and AFL members to get free entry. They will require a $0 cost ticket to enter grounds to comply with COVID-19 safety protocols. General public tickets for pre-season matches will cost $20 for adults, $15 for concession, with children under 15 free (but needing a ticket to enter).

Some of you may be aware that I have not been on much this year. My family has had to come first.

I am disappointed that this has resulted in the footy forum being used for political messages / opinions and fights.

How many times do I have to stress that the General Forum is for politics and the footy forum is for football only.

It is quite clear.

So I can only assume that those posting political messages are doing so to bait others.

FROM 25 FEBRUARY

Any political post in the Footy Forum will be automatically deemed BAITING.

Please report anyone that posts something political after 25 February.

The rule is clearly stated as:

Any post that negatively relates to or references, or baits (directly or indirectly) another poster, or posters, or group of posters in the Saintsational Fan Forum or leads to bickering to the level of an ongoing dispute, will be deemed a breach of rules and the penalty will be either a 1 DAY BAN or 1 WEEK BAN.

And given this warning - expect a 1 WEEK BAN!
