What if Seb was clearly our best player?

What if Ben Long was our worst?

Good one f***wit

I see you’ve changed a few nics over the years. What’s your next reincarnation? Gunna call yourself Hansen or Bolt?
And you've just made my point for me. Poor little victim. All my problems are down to whitey. Typically pathetic.

How dare a young player make a mistake. None of the senior players in the team do, do they?

Let’s crucify him and ignore the mistakes of others. Pathetic!! Y’know what...

Seems to me that some forum posters have been driving an agenda here.

They can’t handle the fact that the coach has singled out Long and selected him to fill a role at half back.

Reeks of jealousy to me
Reeks of favouritism. If his name wasn't Long he wouldn't even be on the list. Five years, only 50 games. Mostly s***. Averages 11 possessions per game over his career. Had 6 last game. Struggles to get a game in an injury ravaged team. The facts hurt for professional victims.

I don’t think it is favoritism at this point. No doubt the name ‘Long’ had an influence in drafting and perhaps later, but not now.
St Kilda desperately wants and needs? Ben to succeed. He does have talent.

But I don’t think anyone should be acting surprised either. That he became unglued in the heat of battle is not a shock and it can’t be written off as ‘one’ slip. We’ve seen how badly he affects the free kick count. We spoke about it last year on this forum. Now, as a backman, every free is a potential opposition shot on goal.

Come to last week, he is back in the side after a number of questions about effort and intensity have been raised about the side in general. Nobody could expect him to rest quietly.

Is he helping us? Now, this week, next month, next year and in five years from now? That is the question.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

OK, in recent weeks we have seen the worst of him
(Note - he had plenty of fellow travellers).

Tonight we saw what he can do.
His gut running is amazing.
He has the speed to run through the lines.
He has the footskills to deliver perfect passes.
He more than anyone else in our side has the ability to run the corridor and create opportunities.

He showed commitment tonight with several tackles - one lead to a score, and two brilliant smothers.

He is a rare talent.
If you watch him he runs his guts out to get to positions where he can be influential but is mostly ignored.
We need to learn to use him more and watch the benefits flow.

I think a few people in this thread owe him an apology.

I’m one of those who don’t owe him an apology.

He has a role to play and does it extremely well. It’s the people who don’t fully comprehend the rationale of balance in a side. He has been used as a scapegoat by those who have little grasp on the game

Don’t think so. It’s a bit sad that it required the amount of heat we have seen to engender what might be only a fleeting response. Time will tell.

Hip hip hooray!!!

Our 800k man got a kick running around brown and gold witches hats and all of a sudden people owe him an apology for questioning his previous insipid performances, I don’t think so.

Yes he went well yesterday but does normally refers to the plural!
If we owe him an apology for doing what he is handsomely rewarded for in one of 25 odd games, there may be cause for him to apologise for his insipid performance in the remaining games!

Half way through the first quarter JB was free at half back and he must have heard his name so he handballed the footy backwards and sideways a couple of metres to Hill. JB then put his arms out to shepherd ...even though technically he was in front of Hill.

Hilly tried to kick it to the advantage of Battle but the kick wasn’t weighted well and we turned it over.

Now here’s why I’m highlighting this passage and I think it’s dumb for our players to think that they should pass it to Hilly every bloody time he is free. JB was running towards our goals and sort of to the left. He’s a left footer and he looks to dish off to a right footer!! Doesn’t make sense and not a good decision, although we know that JB has a tendency to release the footy at every opportunity

Oh dear, didn't think this OP would end well

Maybe time to edit the heading, like "...Hill only had 10 disposals..." or something

IMHO the mods should do that, at least. These hateful headings are offensive to many supporters.

Yes Mods should edit. Offends supporters and visitors as well. Bottom feeders who come on here
see posters slamming their own players in that manner

1965 Saint wrote: Sun 25 Apr 2021 11:09pm He who should be excised had a paltry 10 disposals. Apart from the lucky goal the ones I can recall either went out of bounds or to a Port player. I can’t even be bothered calculating what we’re paying him in terms of $/disposal. I’m sure the result would be obscene though. I lead a very highly engaged team and it’s all founded on respect that every team member has for everyone else’s commitment and contribution. What I’m observing is a team with a level of engagement at the other end of the continuum. That is: DISENGAGED. Once you’re down in those weeds it’s a long painful haul digging out of it.
I hope you are feeling just a little red faced about your OP. Me? I think it is a f****** disgraceful slur.

I don't know the poster's thought process but to me, the headline but not the post itself is highly offensive and could be thought to be racist or at least boardering racial vilification. That's how I feel about it.

I am also extremely glad that at no stage did I join in to the joint kicking in this thread.

Don't think he's owed an apology at all.

He's been ordinary approaching woeful, looked disinterested and soft for the best part of 6 matches.
He had a cracking game yesterday and showed why he is (reportedly) our highest paid player, albeit in a dominant team performance over a weak team.

He now needs to show that character consistently.

Been excellent in two games and really good in one other game. Collingwood would like DeGoey to fire as often.

I guess the Mods have to judge whether this happened and whether posts like this "bring this site into disrepute" - I know I come here less frequently because of the vicious and personal attacks on posters and our players.

Site rules:
ABUSING OR DEMEANING A SAINTS PLAYER, FAMILY OR OFFICIAL RULE

Commenting on the performance of a Saints player / official is allowed. Review their performance and suggest where or how they can improve. In cases where posters abuse or demean a Saints player / official / or their family, OR casts aspersions on their character and it is deemed by the moderators to be offensive and inflammatory, then the moderators will issue a 1 DAY or 1 WEEK BAN depending on severity.
