Imports

Post: # 1902166Post MickThomas »

We get guys who were developed at other clubs, who were surplus to those clubs, and initially they contribute well. Then give em time, and their skill level drops to B-Grade after they absorb the mediocrity affliction from the club.
Laat yr, Butler finished high in the Trevor Barker votes.
This yr, he's country footy standard.
Skunk has been a leader, but he's been down more than up. Remember 3 yrs ago when he couldn't buy a goal until a WCE game in Perth where he got 5.
But he's been cold more than hot.
I really love what Crouch is doing, gets a lot of ball and high pressure act numbers.
With us, watch his numbers drop to a St Kilda standard.

Steele is the exception, for some reason.

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Agree on Butler, Crouch and Steele but you’ve obviously been watching a different Tim Membrey to me.

Skunk has arguably been our most consistent player over his time at the Saints. Rarely has a bad game and plays above his size every week.

And given he only played one game at Sydney, he doesn’t really fit your import attributes.

Who is the troll? Me?
I think Skunk has more COLD games than hot ones.
Before King and Marshall came, he was attracting the 2nd best defender so understandably was under pressure.
But he's never kicked vital goals to get us over the line.
In our poor games, he gets under 12 possies.
He has yips a lot of the time, as well

I remember how bad Skunks yips got after he had been working with Ben Dixon, Dixon must have stuffed Skunk's technique and his mind.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

100% agree.
Last yr, Ryder n Marshall were causing headaches for defenders, allowing Skunk a lot more freedom.
This yr, King has been worked out (apart from WCE) and of course the Dynamic Duo being missing, meant that defenders could cover Skunk better.

Geez he works his butt off, week in, week out, but a combination of our rubbish entries and oppo flooding make his task harder than a roof tiler in a thunderstorm.
Doesn't help that Butler has gone cold as well; if Dan was causing havoc, it would make life easier for Skunk.

Imports who fizzle out after a few good games (or one good year, if you're lucky) are a league-wide phenomenon, though.

King has been worked out has he? His aerial work last night was the best of both teams by a long way. Geelong had no answer to his marking.

Skunk is going at 65.25% accuracy over his career. 201 goals & 107 behinds. I will say that skunk does have a tendency to miss vital shots but overall 65% is quite solid.

and that's the bottom line

Curly says King's aerial work was the best of both teams.
10 marks says Ol' Curly is correct.
But King has been kept ineffectual in most games this year, except for the WCE game.
Every team has watched videos of him, relentlessly, and they've worked him out.
FACT
The Cats' execution of their anti-King plan was not effective. But they do have one, like the other 16 teams

He's kicked 13.18 from 8 games. Make his accuracy a more respectable 60% and you flip those numbers around. King's only issue right now is his goal kicking. He's absolutely flying for a baby FF who is yet to grow into his body. Way ahead of schedule.

The goal kicking is a real concern though. Needs a better routine and a huge boost of confidence

He might grow into his body at some point, but at the moment most of his body work can be tentative as he seems unsure of himself.
And when Lonie got crunched, King was on the end of the play, and a clean pick up would have had him in range of goals.
But he fumbled. Badly. Like a baby foal trying to stand on wobbly legs.
He wasn't like that last year, e.g. the game vs Swans, where he was composed and skilful.

Your talking rubbish. He’s a 200cm 20 year old in his second season. Geelong had no answer to his marking and to take 5 contested marks again shows he’s not tentative with the body work.

fix his kicking and he will be a superstar of the comp. it will come. confidence is down at the moment. needs a good mentor and needs a much better technique. arm swinging, head shifting, not focusing on the ball, hurried kick. all signs of nerves. take a few breathes to relax, and follow taught motion.it will come.

Spot on. Can't believe he has been able to get this far without a routine.
He is a smart kid , sometimes the smart ones over think it. They actually need an automatic routine that takes the thinking out of it.
The footy players not so blessed with brains, usually reliable shots.
