Overall has been a decent player
Would we prefer Cerra for instance?
Wrong question Banger? Cerra & Billings value is completely different, in terms of position.
Allegedly there are plenty out there who can perform like Billings for a third of his price. I'm still waiting to know who they are and if we can buy three.

Younger & very skilful & would be very handy but I doubt he would even be tempted to come to us unless we payed way overs . I've heard Carlton are really in to him & apparently have cash to splash I doubt we could compete

How do they have so much cash after Williams and Sasd last year, Cripps Walsh and Mackay etc?
Just what I've heard no source or ITK info . How can Geelong afford Cameron, Higgins, Hawkins, Smith , Rohan, Toughey ? , Selwood etc I don't really know
The answers lie with a Socialistic Salary Cap that's allowed those fluent enough to keep extremely good players together...if anyone believes our list is the same value as the Top 5 they are fools.
This system explains why stupid clubs like St Kilda pay overs for Hannebery, Hill & now Billings. Stupid because the smarter move should have spread the money across our kids. We went all in when we should have checked.

Well stated Ghost Like. I've been saying this ad nauseam. Only stupid clubs also let someone like Lethlean to take over after the AFL were forced to move him on.
Out-of-contract Saints duo Jack Billings and Luke Dunstan are unlikely to be at the club next season, according to senior foxfooty.com.au reporter Tom Morris.
Both players are set to become free agents and face uncertain future at Moorabbin, with Billings to miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring strain.
It follows Morris’ report earlier this week that Port Adelaide have interest in Billings, with two list bosses telling foxfooty.com.au that they believe St Kilda are trying to push him out by offering him a reduced deal.

Asked on his Trade Chat if he thinks the duo will be at St Kilda in 2022, Morris said: “Probably not.
“(I) Reckon you get a third-rounder as compensation (for Dunstan). Billings I also think is more likely to go, not sure where though. Port have shown preliminary interest. Second rounder as compensation.”
Morris later mentioned that adding another inside midfielder like Dunstan would “make sense” for Carlton.
“Luke Dunstan has been on and off their radar in recent years,” he said.

Just been talking with a Freo fan he say's Cerra going no where happy at the dockers & Freo will bend over backwards to make sure he stays. How much truth is in that I have no idea but he is a Freo fan
Problem with Billings he thinks he is still elite due to his Pick 3 status that is long gone.
Got very good mail he wanted 700 & another club that showed interest said "thanks but no thanks.'
He will get a reality check on his 2021 currency and will pull his head in to 400 -500 mark where he sits to get a contract somewhere.
That means that pick as well wasn't a great selection, its not a fail bit not a "hit" either just a pass mark.
The unfortunate thing is the speculation will drag on for weeks - unless Saints put a short deadline on an answer. These things get tedious, yes? and do the player no favours with fans.
If Jack isn't committed then its best he leave. Who would want him in a good draft year is a mystery to me though.
Bird in hand Jack......usually beats attempts at brinkmanship, which can mess with careers and relationships.

At least with Jack being out for the rest of the year he can't enhance anyone's thoughts of dudmanship.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I don't think that, well I don't think he thinks that. Perhaps he thinks that when he looks around at the players he's played with and playing with and thinks he's worth X if they are being paid X. Afterall his current dollars were on the back of 2019, when we had to pay our underperforming players 95 to 100% of the same salary all other clubs were paying.
Agree with Teflon, delusional if true but again I think he knows he's in for a haircut, likely trying to avoid it being a #1.

Sounds like standard practice for a player manager to get the best deal for his client who is currently on around 600K. Simple as that.
As for the rest of the story, including what "Billings thinks", sounds a bit contrived to me.

Exactly takeaway, the only thinking we know is what we think. Sometimes even that's debatable.
Billings is such an introvert I doubt it is him personally pushing for more $$$, more likely his management referencing what his previous over inflated contract had been. I like others would be more than happy for him to stay on 400-500k per year, if his management insist on more he has a choice to make. Stay for a comensurate contract to his output or leave to chase the dollar. If he does chose to leave the team wont be affected by his absence one bit, he is that 'vanilla' most wouldnt even have noticed he is out injured at present.
Not sure what evaluation tools recruiters/retainers use but at say $500k ( a figure often mentioned) this year so far his goals (18?) cost roughly $28,000 @.
Say he assists just as many then say $14k a goal.
For a guy that is not a match winner/tide turner in a side not winning big games and in finals that seems a tad expensive, if only a very rough indicator.
His gettable set shot conversion rate is look though the fingers stuff.
Sure he can go elsewhere but he might miss the unconditional love his first club has given him.
How about he pays back - acknowledge he has been over paid and take a 25% cut. With performance clauses.
I am a likkle surprised to see Butler has scored more goals - come on Jack how about consistent multiple goal games.
If he goes it might well be to a performance based contract and no certainty he will actually earn more. Unless of course he is stale and sick of the club which is entirely possible. He plays like that at times for all his latent talent.
