Cooper possibly made it look too easy Sunday and selectors, whoever they are, under rate the Dockers' defence. Also he is simply not fashionable, just goes about it without any aggro, angst or style statement. The award's credibility takes a hit. But he wouldn't have won the year thing anyway - as said, not yet fashionable, until suddenly an expert notices his stats: who is that #43 way up in the air, with the ball, they'll ask.

My theory.
The selectors are given a list of players eligible for the award at the start of the year. Every week they look at that list and who has played well and choose a player.
Who is in charge of updating that list? Nobody.
So although Cooper is eligible for the award according to the criteria, the selectors don't know it.

I do not recall a left foot kick - certainly not for goal or to set up the first - I did see Marshall toe poke a left foot goal and Coops run in after him to congratulate.

Would love to see him 27. I idolised George Young and it would be fitting to see him continue in Young’s traditions. I still have a very old, small, woollen jumper with 27 on the back.

We definitely should have Sharman as a nominee but it's really sad and damning for the club that we didn't have one nominee through the entire year.

2.5 goals per game puts him at equal 5th in the league. Small sample size but holy hell he's been impressive. Particularly considering that he is clearly gassed after the first half and desperately needs an AFL pre season.

Agree with this - and think at the end of the day it’s a good result - the kid has had amazing start to what we can only hope as is an incredible st Kilda career - and it’s probably best to keep the pressure and the press off his back


But as someone who is not invested in Area 51 type conspiracies I’m pretty sure the AFL wasn’t keen on a mid season draft guy being a rising star - check the afl highlight packages of the Saints v freo game you would hardly know that Sharman has had an impact
