Training- Tuesday March 15

Post: # 1941682Post Saintmike65 »

In match simulation, it was again the likely senior players in black and the rest in white.
The following players were in black:

Gresham
Crouch
Ross
Hill
Steel
King
Butler
Marshall
Howard
Higgins
Battle
Membrey
Webster
Wood
Paton
Sinclair
McKenzie
Wilkie
Hayes

Gresham looked very lively, with Hill and Sinclair providing a 1-2 ouch coming out of defence, maybe a familiar theme of those 2 looking for each other.
Battle looks very settled in defence, with Jack Hayes looking a certainty to debut.
Membrey very lively as usual!
Of the players in white jumpers, Joyce was good, Byrnes solid, Owens did a couple of nice things as did Windhager.
On a negative note, foot skills still not at the standard they should be, with targets missed under no pressure.
Goal kicking accuracy still could be an issue.
Hannebery looked quite dejected, wearing a compression bandage on his right calf…only doing handball drills with Ryder.

Thanks for providing this report Saintmike65, you've listed 19 players so 3 short of a starting lineup. Byrnes is most likely and then a toss up between Sharman, The Messiah, Bytel, Owens, Highmore, I hope it's the first 2.

If Hannerbery gives us 5 games this year, we will be lucky.

This was in the Injury Watch on the AFL site

"St Kilda is hoping to get some VFL time into injury-plagued midfielder Dan Hannebery, but won't rush his recall to the senior side in the early part of the season given his history of soft tissue issues. "

The "early part of the season", is gut wrenching for the supporters & no doubt Hannebery. Does not sound like just the first couple of rounds. Clark & Billings could both beat him their first games in 2022.

How much will Old Xavs give us to release him early?

lol

Gut wrenching for supporters?

How many supporters are losing sleep about Hannebery?

Translation
Supporters can look forward to the usual dross coming out the club media outlet for the entire season.

For no other reason: we need a fringe midfielder to come from nowhere and announce themselves as a bonfide A grader, preferably one that has a serious afterburner.

Can it be Byrnes?

Yep
Would like to hear the club say in 6 weeks " we've stuck the fork in , he's done ! "
Then we can pick someone up in the mid season who will at least be able of playing in the vfl .

I want Hymie-the-Robot IN. (Re-Joyce, said the Lord)
I want Sharman and Highmore in too.

Battle will probably be BOG for me saying this.

Rather put 5 games into a young player

So far he's been paid $80,000 a game. The only one getting value for money is him.

I think as a saints supporter i am over the posts re Hannerbury and how good he looks pre season and should be ripe for round 1 this has been the same spin for over 3 years.
Again in 2022 i read his is doing laps with his calfs strapped FFS lets forget we have Hannerbury he has been a, one of the worst recrruitment picks we have made thanks to a SL input.
He is only a list clogger to me.
Please do not include him in our players, missing for 2022. matches.

Yes last year.
I've already forgotten he is on the list. I think of him as a non-playing assistant coach, and I am completely (well, almost) happy with that.

Me too. The sooner he's removed from consideration of any significant onfield contribution, the clearer it will be for everyone.

Correct…there were 19 in black plus Hannebery and Ryder but didn’t include those for obvious reasons.
Byrnes likely to be in the side, maybe Owens as a Smokey!
Got a feeling Sharman may miss, as he’s struggled this pre season.
Connelly looked very good at training and must be close.
