Who's nervous?

Our turn tonight.

Hopefully someone's not starting a thread titled, "Have the Pies gone past us".

I'm nervous. Collingwood looks potentially dangerous in some areas, although their defence looks like a weak point. So we need to take our chances in front of goal: which is absolutely and forever our weakest point.

I'm now really looking forward to seeing how Hayes goes and if he'll spend most of his time in the forward line and if it has any immediate improvement to our mechanism into F50.

Carlton looked much better in their F50 and their two gun talls didn't really trouble the scoreboard but looked to scramble the Tiges defence to give opportunity to others.

Having said that the Carlton midfield were a big reason their forward line worked well.

They are past us.

Long season though but like others, I don’t have a great feeling about this season. Everything from here will have to go right for us to make the bottom half of the 8.

Adam Cerra is a big plus for them in their midfield, a former No 5 draft pick. That's a skill improvement and they beat us last year.

Right at this very moment in the game, I wish my team played like Carlton.

I detest them. But regrettably they have a midfield I wish we had. They look sharp, fast and their handling is very good. Miles ahead of us.
Based on last week’s showing we’re headed for bottom 4

When you look at all the other teams I can only see us having a chance against North and Richmond. On that basis we are headed for bottom 2.

St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Helps when you don’t have a salary cap.

Visy Board special purpose Carlton player salary fund.

There'd have to still be a bit of old Blues money pouring into the club hey SP ?

People forget they also have a massive dormant supporter base so expect they will top the 100k membership very soon, they are the forgotten force of Melbourne footy.

I think it's pretty obvious that Carlton have past us but we only have our selves to blame IMO

We've only had the last decade to get things right, but obviously too hard a task for some to grasp at the club.

They are full of top 10 draft picks , we are full of mature age South Australian state league players - and as good as those guys have been we probably can’t expect to be a top team this year

They are a big club but yes, some dodgy business happening there.

We played with that sort of confidence, dare and aggression in 2020.
Last year a few times, like the comeback vs Meth Coast.
But not enough.
The exception rather than the rule.
If Bluescum keep this up, the answer is yes

I had a look at them tonight with a Scum-supporting mate.

Unfortunately a top-four finish is possible for them barring injuries to key players.

Spine is impressive.

Two genuine key forwards who kicked nine between them and good key defenders in Weitering and McGovern.

Plus two gun midfielders in Cripps and Walsh.

Along with a useful supporting cast. Plus when their legion or moronic supporters get behind them they grow an extra leg.

I’d hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but unfortunately Carlton are up and about

On current form, they would beat us by 6+ goals
Yeah, they are way in front of us.

So at R2 we can say Carlton is the first team outside the final 8 from 2021 that will most likely push someone out of the 8 from 2021. I'll predict it is the Bombers as I think their jump into the 8 was Covid assisted -- a bit like ours in 2020.

The Question is then, is there room in the 8 for another team from outside the final 8 of 2021 to push in there this year and if so who will that team most likely be based on R2 form --- AND who do they push out from the final 8 of 2021?

The warning signs are there for the Dogs to be distracted enough to free fall well out of the 8. Who pushes them out though, everyone just assumed Richmond would return to finals but they look shakey early. This might be controversial but could the GCS play finals this year?

I think we all assume we aren't finals bound in 2022 and then there is the Covid Cup factor that will surely compromise results again -- and more significantly this year you'd expect -- and so the final 8 in the end could end up being synthesised again with unworthy place finishes anyway.
