Lienert's unlucky in my opinion but suggest Webster has a gig because of the Greene factor. Either straight to Greene, a back up or tag team with Paton. Plus I'm guessing the conditions will be slippery.

Good news for Heath that he's getting some acknowledgement.

Yes Lienert unlucky. Good problem to have when a player who's been playing has to make way
Also, what a difference it makes when injuries don't force changes. Touches wood, throws salt over shoulder etc

Reserves play Saturday so there’s no issues with emergencies missing out on a run.

Lienert hasn't done anything wrong. We just have an abundance of backmen. I suspect Byrnes will be the sub again.

Will only get tougher with Jones, Clark and Billings fighting for a spot

Leinert would be a good sub with his versatility

Looks like we are in a position to rotate defenders. Nice.

A case could be made for Howard being dropped instead of Lienert. The attitude, attack on the football, decision-making and foot skills of Lienert are exceptional compared to Howard’s.

IMO Byrnes needs some game time , no point him sitting as the sub for weeks .Either go back to Sandy or play , I would prefer he went back to Sandy ATM & get some confidence & yes Lienert was very stiff

Doubt Byrnes will be sub again…has done it 2 weeks in a row, needs game time in the 2’s.
Lienert likely to get that gig!

Can he do both?
Be the sub on Friday and if he doesn’t play, or only plays a quarter or two, he plays for Sandy on Saturday.

I think Howard cops a bit of stick on here, but his spoiling is excellent.

Don’t forget Bobby Hill for GWS , I think Paton will go to him and Jimmy gets first go at Toby

He was still listed on the injury list - 1-2 weeks. Same time length as Clark.

Good point tsr plus Hogan being managed, so a generally smaller, quicker set up by GWS.

Yorkeys: "Webster is faster & better mark."

From what I've seen, he's also a bit harder around the ball. He goes and gets his own ball and kicks it out of the backline whereas, from what I've seen of him, Lienert is more inclined to wait and receive the ball. Lienert then shows a great ability to hit a target, and we'll miss that a bit. But GWS is a side that likes to scrap in close, so I can see why we went with Webster.

The other viable option was to leave out Windhager and play both Webster and Leinert. But I think, again, the selectors feel that Windhager will bring a bit more to the contest. I think it's great that they've stuck with Windhager and NWM for another big game.

Dropping Howard was never an option. Lienert couldn't come close to doing what Howard does.

People who pick on him don't seem to understand that the nature of the full back role is that you make plenty of mistakes and get beaten quite often. If that didn't happen, the Coleman Medal would be won routinely by goal sneaks. Howard's game against the Hawks wasn't one of his best, but he's otherwise been going pretty well this year. The structure of the defence has been working really well, gradually choking the opposition's attack as the games go on. Howard plays a key role in maintaining that structure. He's not the best full back in the comp, but he's far from the worst.

Webster is also very good with ball in hand under pressure, makes really good choices and takes the game, can be creative especially with his beautiful kicking style and accuracy.
