NWM dropped for Butler is disappointing.

It reads as though he pulled up sore

Jarrod Lienert, Jack Billings and Hunter Clark have been named as emergencies alongside Wanganeen-Milera.

Really glad Owens & Windhager have kept their spots in the side. Butler deserves his recall and hope he can get back to his goal kicking best.

Hill named on a wing I hope he starts there, I dont think he matches up on any of Brisbanes small forwards.

The coaches surely know that Hill's run and precision are weapons, and he will panic in the backline.

Butler+Higgins is silly.
Why?
Butler got 5, but it was against an under-18 level team.
He'll get nothing against the Lions.
Higgins will burn team-mates and do nothing in F50.

Those 2 can play vs Injectors, but not against a top 2 side.
Crazy

Higgins in AA form before injury.
Butler also has played at AA level in the past, was struggling with goals but otherwise doing everything right and went back and addressed the issue.

Sharman hasn't done anything of note.
NWM rested.

All makes sense to me.

Brisbane had problems with Freo small forwards…Shultz & Fredrick kicked 7 between them!
Saints selectors obviously took that into consideration.

Sorry but that is bulls***. Higgins is a great player. Butler is needed for his forward pressure. He will probably kick 3.

I’m also pleased Owens and Windhager both in.
Perhaps selectors nervous about going with all 3 teenagers for such a massive game.

Disappointed that Clark has not come back/ can't get in before Butler. Have to wonder what the long term holds for him now.

Sharman being discarded also a bad sign for us.

Can't work out what the selectors are trying for re a settled forward line. Butler has had so many opportunities for so little return.

Ah well, hope it turns out ok.

I'm not sold on the mosquito fleet gameplan. How many games have our small forwards dominated as a collective? Not many I can remember. We'll have Higgins, Butler, Long and Gresh when he rests forward. We now have no 2nd tall so King will be double teamed at times. Members will have to play forward where Sharman playing allowed him to play the link man role he does so well.
Marshall and Ryder will have to rotate forward otherwise our "Bomb it long , on top of Kings head" is just going to blow up on us.
I really hope our coaching staff haven't been sucked in by Butlers one good VFL game against Norfs and think we're suddenly going to have this formidable small forward line as that's never really worked for us. Butler would want to be at his defensive best and Higgins would want to play the team role, score when he can and put on some pressure also.

Have to imagine that Clark is strictly a match fitness thing

I’ll be quite shocked if he’s not back in next week regardless of outcome

Forward line will have one of marshall or Ryder forward the whole time.

Members as third tall.

Higgins acts almost like a 4th.

Butler and long pressure and smalls.

Not exactly a mosquito fleet when you factor the above in.

Sharman is a depth player, I'd argue it'd be a worse sign for us if it had been decided his return was enough to warrant a spot.

Sharman is more than depth IMO, just needs to keep improving, he draws one of Max's defenders and is a better kick.

If he was used more he would have kicked 2-3 goals in his matches as second fiddle.

That said, I can understand the selections.

Pressure from our 3 new recruits on the established brigade is excellent.

Clark and Billings are better players at this stage, but they have to push themselves out of cruise control now that Owens and Windhager are on the scene , as these young boys seem to be going all out.

would have preferred just higgins in and we keep coops. just seem better structurally up forward with that extra tall. team needed to spot up coops more often instead he was basically used as a decoy. lad has a true foot on him.

I'm actually a fan of Sharman personally but he is not best 22 at this point of his career.

There is no shame in that, it's a very good sign for us. He has a great kick and is one of those awkward match ups but membrey and Higgins are sitting in his spot and well ahead of him at the moment.

The obsession on this forum with him is insane. Bring back Spencer white.
