Good luck to Brett, admit I was happy to see him go but do feel for the guy.

Ratts is a good man, just didn't quite have the tricks as a senior coach- probably a really good assistant coach.

So does time.

in same vein
How about a series of random ladder shots from 2009 - 2019.

The coaching record (not that stats should define a coach) is 50% win-loss for both clubs he coached. I think stats-wise, that is better than many, if not most.

There have been far, far worse coaches at the club in my lifetime!

And as mentioned before, he’s a decent human being. A shame he was let go of so unceremoniously.

Richo
Watters
Blight
Watson

To name a few.

Ratten was alright but the concerns were there from the outset.

Like you… it was sad the way he was let go.

I liked Ratts more than Richo. I still won’t miss him though.

He gave his all but unfortunately IMO only just didn't have that spark or confidence to get the most out of the group on a consistent basis . Even when we were winning early in the season we were so hot & cold , 2 good quarters 1 poor 1 average but still did enough to get over the line but when injuries to key players kicked in it made his job so much harder & the rest is history . Can RTB do any better with the list he has than Ratt's I'm unsure but IMO he will demand more of the players & hopefully with a bit of luck with injury we can get a completive team on the park most weeks & that is where RTB IMO get a more consistent performance

Curious

What year did you expect Richardson to make finals?

Yep, the last three you mentioned were cancers on the club. And then there was that mercenary coach from Richmond in the 80s, Tony Jewell lol

As I live in Perth, watching on TV gives a rubbish view of the game.
So the game vs Freo was the one I really focussed on, and was hungry to watch every part of the ground.
The Dockers had our measure all damn day, they were more determined, more cohesive, more in control of the play.
We were playing catch-up, until Sean Darcy did his ankle in the last.
Every fwd thrust by Freo was met with strong contested marks by Battle and others. Dockers kept trying, but Battle was impassable.
And we managed to hold on.
I realised we either had lower quality players than them, a worse system, or both.

We need our guys, during pre-season, to work on set plays to maximise their strengths (what strengths they have?) and not expose their shortcomings.

Why in 2017

Who was elite on the list in 2017

A 35yo Nick Riewoldt
A 34yo Leigh Montagna

Jack Steven - was he ever elite?

Put it in perspective- this forums favourite whipping boy won the B&F
Seb Ross

Roberton was good at HB that year

But seriously
Does that read like a finals like team?

I think we won 11 or 12 maybe 🤔 which I think was pretty much par

Hectoring, way under utilized word, surprising given its relevance to modern society.
Love it!

Dropped it into the Saintsational search bar and it has only been used on 9 previous occasions.

Bring back hectoring!

I don’t think he looks too different in those pics TBH.

Growing out the hair always makes you look older, (more classy too)
Then there is hair colour…and the beard..which at around 50 will be grey.

A shave, haircut and bottle of hair colour, Brett will be looking ten years younger in no time.

Matter of fact, I think we’ll see a lean and fresh Ratts on TV next year, especially if he has missed the assistant coach appointment timetable.

Fifty per cent win/loss ratio is good by St Kilda standards, so clearly he had some sort of an idea of how to coach.

Probably too good of a bloke for that role though.

Lots of stress in coaching and his health would have suffered long term. Wish him the best. As you point out, we’ve had many worse coaches.
