Just left game and most people are fairly positive. Main reason I think we lost were the three early injuries. Easy in hind sight but picking Ross was a mistake if his injury wasn’t healed.
Plus dees hit the scoreboard when it counted.
Byrnes played better tonight, still made mistakes but did a lot of good. Roma and crouch doing so much work in the middle and Zac Jones was good first game back.
But please for the love of god stop with the handballs to a player a metre to your righ. So frustrating

Caminiti was barreled in the back in a marking contest - no free

How about that 50
Advantage, play on, called it back - 50m
That 50 was straight from the first class cheat sheet from the ump

Either it's advantage or its a free back to the spot especially when advantage was called

He was out the back and 'hoping' to be the hero.

He ignored what was happening around him and got frustrated because his opponent had him on a short leash after he'd just kicked the previous goal

He's selfish

We did most things right but lost game because of dumb kicks inside 50 and poor conversation. Steele had 6 inside 50s and didn't hit a single team mate.

It's hard to upset by the win, though. It's the best we've played since round 6.

When you look at our forward line it had 4 players who had played less than 20 games apiece. Owens, Sharman. Caminiti, and Phillipou.

With more experience, fitness and strength they will get better

We can’t even get it to ground

We are the WORST team in the AFL for turning entries into scores and have the MOST intercept marks in our i50

This is a system and personnel problem.

Seb Ross is out of the game - who can we blame?

Gresham??
It's a skills and intelligence deficit, you've nailed two, unfortunately there is a few more.

The inability to engage
Harris Andrews

Is a coaching and decision making issue - every fkn week a defender fines out on PITRID entries!

We let HBs dominate - we let key defenders dominate

Caminiti is fkn hopeless even when he gets the ball. He basically fkd up every possession he had tonight
Yep, Hammer is a battling Carlton Reserves player playing in the big league, hope he is better in 2024.
Bit harsh on a 1st year 19yo

He needs to muscle up and get stronger

It also doesn't help when he gets mugged in marking contests and gets no favors from the umps ..... but which of our tall forwards ever do?
Excuses, i do hope he makes it.

Sliding doors moment was Melbourne's last goal in the third quarter after first May throws it when tackled & then Grundy throws it when tackled.

4 f@cking umpires have to be better than that. The 4th umpire has just added 33% more frustration to a once great game.

Why can’t the coaches bear responsibility

It’s their system and instruction the players play under

Our forward structure is poor - coaching
Our ball movement forward of centre horrendous - coaching

Skills and personnel are an issue, but so is System and structure

AAllowing running defenders to get 40
Allowing key defenders to take 10 intercept marks

Not fkn good enough

True but took away our main target up forward which meant their best defender was now on a lesser ppponent. Ross is solid in the midfield if not spectacular and may have had fewer turnovers plus our players would be less fatigued at the end. But credit where it’s due dees played better. Our stop start style sucks and is easy to counter. Plus long bombs are the last not first option into fifty and again those damn handballs. The main screams from the crowd were f’ing kick it
Either way we lost so bring on next week

The Achilles heel and flaw quite frankly of RL's game plan is letting defenders like May, Sicily, etc... dominate in the hope that we can create a turnover 50-70 metres further afield.

Good luck with that against skillful teams.

In the annual "What a difference a Petracca makes" Cup of Woe, it was an excellent effort because of our early bench situation. Our attitude and commitment was first rate. We lack polish and composure but not effort. A lot of that side tonight will be with us next year and another pre season with the coaching group will help. As will another summer in the gym and getting KMs into the legs of the kids.

A pre season fixing the disconnect between the centre and the F50 is what's required. Once our forwards have the confidence our mids & half backs will lower their eyes, they will create separation and begin leading. We need to cut out 80% of bombing blindly into the F50, that should only ever happen in wet conditions or "break glass" in emergency situations.

Whilst a loss, tonight should be a positive with plenty to learn from. I feel a fraction more buoyed by tonight's effort than last week's win.

It may have been 19-15 tonight but it should have been 30-15. Do you support the Saints or the umpires?

I don't know how many times a player picked up the ball tonight running forwards, no opposition player in front of him, but decides to handball backwards. WTF??

Funnily enough you can both support the Saints AND be realistic about the umpiring.
