Paddy Mac retires ...

Post: # 2025502Post Saintmatt »

Finally. Hopefully this is the last chapter in what was an all-round sh!tshow - both for Paddy and our club.

All the best for a long and healthy retirement Paddy. Go well.

If there is any justice we should get compensation. Say pick 10.

Might be hailed as a harbinger of something or another, as years go past.

He and his brother were a huge part of their drive to the Grand Final last year.

Helmets will come.

I realise it is not a ‘missile’ like a cricket ball we are talking about here, but the argument that it’s the yolk in the egg, and not the shell ‘n white won’t last in my expert medical opinion, because a helmet can distribute the shock around the cranium, so there would be some force opposing the impact zone, even partially.

Maybe a kind of soft helmet/ head band thingo.

Every season we have trouble

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Imo, for his own health and safety, he should have accepted his fate and retired at the end of 2019. Having said that, props to him for reinventing himself as a player getting to play in GF. Hope he is no longer plagued by concussions, or the side-effects from taking that many knocks to the head over his career 🍀 🥔

Sad day for Paddy...the what ifs.

He was so good at crashing packs, taking marks and kicking through...

But how many get try...abd how maby get to play?

63 games!

Incredible effort in a field flooded with desperate souls who never get a nod.

Thanks Paddy

The what ifs on the same day different clubs:

- If we had of taken Nic Natt instead of Watts

However it came about the smart and correct decision has been made. All the best to Paddy.

I have absolutely no doubt had he stayed in the game he would have become a premiership player, Sydney have really missed him this year.

Really feel for the guy, must have been so hard, but there is no doubt he’s made the right choice. We see it with a range of injury types, some players just luck out when it comes to having a body that can stand up to AFL footy. Not through lack of talent and discipline - purely bad luck and an inability to stay fit and on the park

I'm pleased that Paddy had another crack, albeit with the Swines. I am also sad that he risked everything by having another crack. I am sad that he suffered yet another innocuous concussion, at the same time being pleased that he has drawn his own conclusions and done the right thing by himself.

Good health to you Paddy and I hope you live to a ripe old age with lucid memories of what you achieved and what might have been. You will always be able to highlight to knockers you played 63 AFL games more than they have. Nobody who ever played a single AFL game would ever knock you.

I think the decision was made for him

....specialists advised him it was not in his best interests to keep playing.

The decision came after he met an AFL panel of concussion experts which recommended he stop playing due to his long history of concussion to minimise the chances of further brain trauma.

I am certain the decision was made for him, but I truly hope that Paddy was in total agreeance and, finally, accepts it is unwise to continue. I'll cut him some slack and say it is his future and his decision.

I don't feel bothered that he's retiring. He's making the right decision though. It was obvious to all except for Paddy for a long time.

Paddy got an opportunity that millions didn't. He obviously gave everything he had to the effort. Well done. Now go enjoy your life while you still can.
