Re: Steele Rumors not going away
Lots of scuttlebutt out there at this time of year. At this stage I'd rule it out. He might lose the captaincy, though, which might be good for him because he's an introvert.

Whether it's through departure of the club or not, I reckon it's a safe bet he won't be Captain in 2024

If Steele is on the table, then someone with huge value is agreeing to negotiate.

Rumours: its a Fleetwood Mac Album ft. - Dreams
"Now here you go again
You say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It's only right that you should
Play the way you feel it
But listen carefully
To the sound of your loneliness"
Jack leaving: tell them they are dreaming.

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
If the clubs says he's on the table it diminishes his value. Always best to let rumours take this out there, club denies it and says he's a required player, but then a trade seems to happen anyway.
It's just the trade game.
The biggest loser in this game was Hawthorn when they put everyone up on the open market and it was like a garage sale.

Every player is theoretically on the table - the offer just has to be worth it

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
Maybe Jack Steele is the one who wants out.
Our clearance numbers were awful yesterday. It seems that our mids are primarily concerned about what their opponent is doing, instead of hunting the footy
I remember in 2021 and also last year before he ruptured his AC joint in the round 9 match against Geelong, that he'd get 30+ regularly and have really strong clearance numbers.
Maybe he's told his manager he doesn't want to be a tagger and a stopper every single time he runs out to play.

This season he’s been a shadow of 2019-2022 Steele

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
Hie did a shoulder in round 9, in the match against Geelong last year. Played out the game with a ruptured AC joint.
Took him a while to get back to full fitness but he was at his best at the back end of 2022. He got 30+ in Round 20 against Hawthorn.
Park aside his broken collarbone in 2023...
Park aside the fact that there's a new coach asking him to perform roles...
And yeah... you're right

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
That's quite a reasonable observation, provided of course, Steele is really up for trade. Which I doubt.

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
I think he’s been playing most of this year injured, should have been rested for a period in the middle of the season to get his body right.Scollop wrote: ↑Sun 27 Aug 2023 7:23pmHie did a shoulder in round 9, in the match against Geelong last year. Played out the game with a ruptured AC joint.

Didn’t Lyon say about 3 weeks ago that he wants to “build the team around Steely” - not sure why he’d say that if he was planning to get rid of him??

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
In a very backhanded way, a trade for Bont would be building the team around Steely. Sort of. But we probably shouldn't do anything less. The Linton Street Flash wrote: ↑Sun 27 Aug 2023 7:47pm Didn’t Lyon say about 3 weeks ago that he wants to “build the team around Steely” - not sure why he’d say that if he was planning to get rid of him??

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
It would be a crazy move, as would any concept of trading Marshall. It hasn't been Lyon's style in the past to seek to trade key players out of the teams he coaches: he seems to focus mainly on the ones he sees as unwilling or not fit enough to play his physically-demanding style of football. Steele has clearly been playing a bit injured this season, but - fully fit - he seems to me to be eminently suited to Lyon's style of play.
But contemporary football is a bit like a reality TV show: anyone can be voted off the island at any time. So we can never be sure exactly what's going to happen. And we know that Silvagni will be looking to make some trades.

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
From BF who knows:
Bumped into McCartney (GWS GM) in the lounge before my flight home this morning.
Had a chat about footy, brought up Jack Steele and he said the news he's been hearing recently is we're trying to get rid of him...
Watch this space on the Steele rumours I guess lmao

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
I was having a beer with the GWS President in Bangkok just now and I asked him, what is our midfield in 2024 anyway?
He scoffed,
“Crouch, Crouch and Crouch”
And I said, what about the trade?
And he quipped, “Yeah, you’ll get the other Crouch from Adelaide to pinch hit”
Then he ordered bangers ‘n mash.
And I said, ‘but same, same eh?’..’we are in Thailand’
And he said there is comfort in familiarity.

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
Are you trying to upset me? I'll have nightmares if there's another Crouch at St Kilda
I googled Malcolm Blight Medallist and the top ten for 2017 (the year Adelaide were in the Grand Final) and it's interesting looking at each club's top 10.

Brad 194 pts
I just wonder (actually, I don’t, I dread to think, about our midfield next year)
Brad is a soldier but won’t get better
Ross (Seb) is Ross (Seb) and will probably just keep going, playing the percentages, intelligently but not match-winningly
Hunter - gee, what is the verdict punters? I am a huge fan, but are we starting to accept his limits? I fear so.
Jones?? Oh dear ….startling to look like a 1975 Alfa-Sud
(with electrical problems)
Steele- well, here we are, aren’t we? Asking this very question.
Hill won’t get better
Mitch Owens is our Prettacca!! And our savior ?
NWM ? Xavier Clarke? But not a genuine mid
So ?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Steele Rumors not going away
A fully fit Steele with a pre season under his belt would make a world of difference next year. Terrible idea to trade him unless there was something very very valuable coming back
