You're right, Teflon.

We managed to keep Sicily down to 26 possessions and thus beat the Hawks who I noticed ended the season 16th on the ladder.

He didn't beat us, the second time around.

Anyway, I think our current coaches will do just fine ... we just need to get all the other areas right.

Don’t take my word for it though
Sicily had 26 - think you’ll find Sharman had far more influence on the game
Oh and just watching Fox Buckley Lyon and Browne ALL agree unanimously….were Saints right to replace Ratten ?
YES UNANIMOUS

the coach often takes much more blame than they are given credit
Where are the headlines that say 'Saints players' get back to playing finals? All I seem to be hearing is that 'Ross Lyon' has the Saints back in finals.

We have 3 guys named in the All Australian squad this year. The credit for that achievement rests solely on the professionalism and hard work from these individuals.

Their form and their development has been on an upward path for the last 5 years. It didn't just magically appear in 2023. These guys and Jack Steele have helped lift the whole team

Judging from the merry forumites' attitudes on here, they also don't agree that 'the coach takes blame' for losses or poor performance.

They'll shut down any questions or any talk of the coach having flaws.

Coaching is a funny business and, the truth is, good players make good coaches. Moreso head coaches than assistants, who are more focused on developing the strengths in individuals. The Boss's job is to ensure everybody is singing from the same hymn sheet so to speak.

St Kilda has a wonderful history of employing premiership coaches in the quest for the holy grail. I am thinking Alex Jesaulenko, Tony Jewell and Malcolm Blight. The were outstanding successes for us weren't they?

Ross is portrayed as a little bit off-beat, eccentric if you like. But he is outstanding at understanding and driving the big picture of team ethos, leaving the implementation details to his assistants. Deviate from the plan at your peril.

Just like Ross the boss can't be given single attribution of our success nor can these players. Any elite athlete will tell you there is a team of people (often led by a coach) around them that enable their success and environment plays no small part..

It's part of the reason historically we have missed out on some of the better talent which has been available.
