I used to love the carnival atmosphere when the Bears/crows/swans played there in the early 90s. No opposition support, happy banter abounding and little chance of losing.

Who captained our little league team in 1978?

Hint - he went on to play for our seniors.

Harv's would have been too young. Even Harvey couldn't captain the Little League at 7.

I know Lockett played but don't know if he was captain.

Might be Plugger, or David Grant, or Rod Owenthesaints ?

I'll guess Grant.

Oh I see what you mean

So it was Rocket Rod ?
When he still had two good knees, didn't drink and didn't follow the nags.

Wasn't there some story that back under Baldock he called in sick to avoid training and then went off to the races and enjoy a few quiet ales. But unfortunately he ran into The Doc who had given himself the day off ?
Or was that just an urban myth ?
(Great story anyway !)

Correct EM - your go!

We've probably all said enough about young Rocket and how things panned out - my folks knew his dad who died quite young, made a big difference to how things turned out IMO.

That's a sad story about Rocket.
When he first came to Morabbin he looked like he could be anything.
In the end his career was just a wasted opportunity.

Next ....

Memory Lane.
Windy Hill
Not a happy hunting ground !
Round 9 1990
But this day we were on song.
Knew we were a chance to win when Spiro Kourkoumelis snapped one over his shoulder in the second quarter from the boundary line in the members pocket towards the goals in front of The A.F. Showers Pavillion (who the hell is AF Showers ?).
We were always competitive but late in the last quarter it was Essendon leading by a few points and going forward.
Suddenly there was a turnover.
The ball rebounded.
There was no-one in our forward line except for one player.
He received the pass and was about 50 metres out and 40 metres in the clear.
He turned and started running towards goal (Golden Showers end) in Ray Gabelich fashion.
Meanwhile Darren Bee-wick was giving chase and closing fast.
Our man kept going and ran right into the goal square to make certain of it.
He then sensed danger.
Hurried his kick as the tackle came.
Ball spilled free.
No winning goal.
Can't remember if it was a point or a free kick as my head was in my hands.
The entire Essendon members stood up and gave Bewick a standing ovation for what seemed like an eternity.
StK players bowed their heads.
Dons kicked another quick goal.
Siren.
11 point loss.
Game over.
Humiliation.

Name our lumbering non match winner ?

Kitschke could lumber with the best of them.

Well done Les, and welcome aboard the Saintsational bandwagon.
It was indeed the lumbering Damian Kitschke.
And it was a horrible game at a horrible ground against a horrible team with horrible supporters !
Watching him get run down that day was like watching a car accident about to happen.

I think he came from South Australia.
Whilst short on vowells he was big on reputation.
But failed to deliver.
Came and went in about 2 disappointing seasons.
Though I do remember some photos of him getting pretty friendly with Elle
McPherson - one of our grassroots supporters !

Over to you ...

Well done Les and welcome.

Not sure if you know, being a new poster, but since you got the question right, you get to post the next trivia question.

Not all that new actually. Couldn't continue on as Corr Blimey after he was delisted :(

Ross Lyon played his last game for Fitzroy against the Saints in 1994.

A couple of young guns played well, Robert Harvey got 1 vote, Chris Johnson got 2 votes but who was the young man with huge potential who had 31 possessions and scored 3 Brownlow votes that day?

Since 1993, which season was the only season that Robert Harvey has averaged under 20 possessions per game?

Yes.

Played 10 games for 194 possessions. Was injured a few times and in his last game(against the cows) was injured before half time(shoulder). Your go Bot.
