S.Mart - phantom draft....

Post: # 493980Post St.M »

After gathering info here's how I see it

Pick 1-Kruzer
Pick 2-Cotchin (will look at Morton, but cannot pass on him)
Pick 3-Masten (higher than he should but eagles like him, only prefer Cotchin)
Pick 4-Morton (WCE won't take another Morton)
Pick 5-Grant (too high, but the doggies are keen...they are poor early drafters)
Pick 6-Myers (steal)
Pick 7-Palmer (not the local they prefer, but will take him)
Pick 8-Selwood (way over the odds, but blue chip with pedigree)
Pick 9-McEvoy (good get, with many other options just as good, he fits best)
Pick 10-Ebert (not a jet, but a good get at 10, replace Riccutio)
Pick 11-Henderson (Big fwd/Back which they need going fwd)
Pick 12-Rioli (steal, sit at the feet of Buddy/Roughead and later replace Crawf)
Pick 13-Pears (KPDef....a good fit and local)
Pick 14-Rance (they seriously need a KPDef)
Pick 15-Dangerfield (good selection)
Pick 16-Veszpremi (solid pick)
Pick 17-Grimes (solid pick)
Pick 18-Gaertner (poor selection)
Pick 19-Simpson (over the odds)
Pick 20-Gourdis (steal)
Pick 21-Ward
Pick 22-Marric
Pick 23-Brown
Pick 24-Notte
Pick 25-Whitecross
Pick 26-McGinty
Pick 27–Joseph
Pick 28–Greenwood
Pick 29-Collier
Pick 30–Motlop
Pick 31-Hall
Pick 32-Tarrant

Pick 42-Sandilands (word is that we are into him)
Pick 57-Kay (as above...too hard to pick at that low...other than type, we have already secured a KP/Ruck, Key Def would be nice, but not much left)
Pick 70-Gehrig (personally prefer a second chance to Ryly Dunn, but it's a smokey selection at 70 anyway)

great effort imo.

i too believe Selwood will be top 13. would not be surprised at all if he becomes a saint.

i believe saints wont hesitate if myers slips to our pick.

Henderson, McEvoy, Ebert, Rioli and Gourdis are also in contention. if bulldogs surprise everyone and pass on Grant then we have been linked with him.

To a lesser extent Rance and Dangerfield have been linked to the club also.

My tips:

If we go Small: Rioli...Selwood and Ebert chances
If we go Tall: Myers (I hope) if not Henderson
If we go for a Ruck: McEvoy

straight up, I know sfa about all of this; however I think we might be looking for a midfielder with our 1st pick, if that is the case, & going off Marto's list, I reckon that means our choices are between:

Pick 10-Ebert (not a jet, but a good get at 10, replace Riccutio)
Pick 12-Rioli (steal, sit at the feet of Buddy/Roughead and later replace Crawf)
Pick 15-Dangerfield (good selection)
Pick 16-Veszpremi (solid pick)
Pick 17-Grimes (solid pick)

of those I'll take a stab in the dark & guess - Dangerfield.

(Lose your password StMart?)

If McEvoy's still available, he's it. The Boss has said he wants us to have the chance to develop a young ruckman. The midfield's fine - what we need is ruck strength to provide the quality mid's with a first chance. Not that an 18 Y.O. can be expected to that. But, he can be expected to learn.

And, by smart reports, McEvoy is a learner. Driven youngster with good hands and a leadership attitude. I hope we take him (apparently the recruiters are only scared of Bomberland who might take him early).

Agree with your top 10 St M, except for Sellwood. I think Henderson will go to the Lions at 8.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it......no I don't want to read about it anymore!!!

If essendon take McEvoy then we would be thrilled to get David Myers if he slips past Fremantle and Brisbane.

im quite confused by all this sureness about Henderson being a lion. brisbane already have about 4 key forwards, they are one of the last teams to need another key forward.

I think our (realistic) wish list is - in order

David Myers
Ben McEvoy
Cyil Rioli
Lach Henderson
Pat Dangerfield

Later Pick we have been linked to
Hugh Sandilands, Brent Connelly, Haelan Kay, Rohan Bail

We draft a lot of players from Queensland and Gippsland, and probably will again...

We'll find out soon enough, but for what it's worth I agree with carnaby.
We really need another quality mid.

I dont get it. Spot on. Why? He like 99% of people had at least 8 of the top 10 right. He didnt get our other players right as I would suggest no one else did.

The Herald-Sun's Phantom Draft had us down for McEvoy as well.....

A popular choice, well done to those that tipped it...

I wonder if he'll debut in 2008......

Saints looking like a bottom 4 team in 2024.

bit sour you didnt pick it ??
was a very good effort st mart i knew westcoast would take masten over palmer and with meyer gone freo were always going to pick palmer i honestly thought we would go for a mid with pick 9 but over all im quiet happy . lets just hope they work out for us

funny how west coast ended up with masten selwood and ebert all 3 would of been great pick ups but to secure all 3 is something special suddenly the post Benny/judd era looks a tad brighter

Didnt even try but all the Melbourne papers picked 9 out of 10. This guy got 8 so all i am saying is what is the big deal.

Why would it bother you if someone says well done to me....big deal, it's all a bit of fun...very few get it right after R1......IMO you have come off sounding a bit like a jealous tool, when there is nothing in it...
