May have opportunity to get AFL members tickets. Do they ask for your ID at the gate and refuse entry if you are not the actual member. Would appreciate any feedback from anyone has used these tickets in the past

Haven't gone to a GF, but they haven't asked me at any games this year including QF, PF and the round 16 game V Pies.

I imagine the GF might be different though.

This whole issue really annoys me.If I have paid for the ticket and membership why the hell can't I give it to anyone I please.Just make it transferable FFS

Exactly.

If we don't sell it at a premium price we should be able to give it to someone.

I certainly won't be attending without both my Ticket and my AFL Membership Card.

AFL Member's GF tickets are not transferrable to non AFL members and I believe random checks are done.

I'm certainly not going to be taking any risks (going back to G'Town to get the Membership Card is not an option  )

someone told me last year that they had a spare MCC ticket if i could find someone that wanted it. He said that as long as i knew someone else that was a member to sign me in then i could take the ticket...

I wasnt a member, and i knew no other members at the ground i had to tell him i couldnt take it. So my understanding is, as long as there is one member that can sign then it is fine... I have never tried this though, but that is what he had said and he had been an MCC for over 20 years

Both my wife and I got checked last year at gate 7 which is the small AFL members gate, we had to produce AFL membership and proof of ID, it was all written down by the official. I saw at the 2nd semi against Geelong this year at the same gate the official checking both, so my advice would be to go to gate 6 which is busier and you might not get checked if you go through when the rush is on but the risk is yours. this year with the Filth in they might do more checks as they will be aware that some of the ferals rocking up at the members probably don't belong there.

Definitely no Guest passes for the GF in the MCC.
And memberships are strictly non transferable - they have photo IDs so you are taking a huge risk to lend one.

Guest passes used to be called Ladies Tickets, back prior to 1985 when women were admitted to the MCC. From that point onward, they became Guest passes, and the MCC member that had the Guest pass had to pay the full membership cost to keep it. These passes can be used to get into the Granny by anyone in company with the member who owns the card.

Visitors tickets are different - they are bought on a game by game basis and aren't available for the Granny, and with no interstate clubs playing, Restricted MCC members can't get in either.

From what I gather, there aren't that many Guest Passes around anymore, as they stopped being issued 25 years ago!

By way of coincidence I have just checked my e-mails and have one from the AFL:

"The AFL Membership Service Centre would like to remind all AFL Members who have purchased a ticket to the 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Final, that AFL Membership is a non-transferable product, meaning that the benefits and entitlements of the membership are for the sole use of the account holder and cannot be gifted or on-sold to another person.

AFL Member identification checks will be conducted for the 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Final and all AFL Members are required to carry their AFL Membership card and relevant photo identification with them when attending the match.

AFL Members found to be gifting or on-selling their membership entitlements will be penalised and will also face having their AFL Membership cancelled.

We hope you enjoy the 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Final and may the team you are supporting win.

Kind Regards,
AFL Membership Service Centre"

As I said, I'll definitely be carrying my membership on me on Saturday.

Just watch what's happening at the gate before entering. It's easy to see if they're checking memberships. If they are just wait, they don't check them all and usually check outside before you go through the scanners.

This!

Your over riding inclination once at the ground is to just get inside. I caution you against this. Stand back and assess. There will be ppl from the AFL checking. They generally have a lanyard around their necks identifying themselves and they have a clipboard. They can't be on every gate, so look before charging in. I observed a woman at the saints/cats qualifying final get pulled up at the gate. Not sure what happened to her, but they had her there for ages.

And for what it's worth St Patrick - I agree completely with you. THere is no logical reason why the AFL membership cards can't be transferable. Not as if you need to adhere to certain standards or be nominated to join like the MCC. THe AFL try and set themselves up as this elite club, when it's nothing like that at all. The only thing that should be banned is selling the memberships or tix for the game at a profit.

The reason they aren't transferable is that people in the one family who support different teams would share one membership during the year.

** Not saying they shouldn't be transferable, especially for the GF.
