Mature age ex AFL who can play

Post: # 1834796Post Joffa Burns »

Sam Murray & Harley Bennell can both play footy.
Both have a history of off field issues and clubs ignored them in both drafts.
Both have skill & pace.

Murray is fit and ready to go.
Bennell would need to prove his calfs are ok.

If they are fit and over off field issues would be a fabulous investment.

I wonder if either will get picked up?

I think that the clubs have to lodge their final lists by 2pm tomorrow; so these 2 will have to be signed as DFAs sometime tomorrow morning. It is a bit harsh to make them wait so long. They must be getting nervous.

Doesn’t this period now extend to February? We picked up Marsh and Rowe very late last year.

But I’m not sure we have any spots on our list.

Murray isn't up to AFL level, and Bennell can't get on the park, Melbourne might take him if he gets fit but is still a fair way from being fit (he's training with them).

So lets get them and board them in the same house.

We don't. 45 players. List full.

The only option to get anyone on our list now, is to have a long term injury, and be written off for the whole upcoming season.
Roberton last year was a player who wrote off his whole year, before the year started, so that we could sign 1 rookie to cover his absence (from memory it was Marsh or Rowe).
Once they are added to the list, the club can decide to extend their contract beyond the year, like Marsh did, or cut ties like what happened with Rowe.
It is a new option for clubs, which can be quite handy if someone does an ACL (or similar) in the pre season, and you don’t have the depth to cover.
