Danny - First anniversary looms

Post: # 1859756Post Enrico_Misso »

Wed 9th September is the first anniversary of Our Captain's tragic demise.

That is only about 4 weeks away.
I remember late last year hearing the club say they were considering options to best recognise/remember Danny but would not rush into a quick decision.
I also understand this year has been "unusual" with much to organise with fewer staff.
But it would be very disappointing if appropriate recognition of Danny is another victim of this f'ing virus.

Does anyone know if the club is close to making an announcement on this?

I guess with all these lockdowns I wonder if Spud would’ve survived anyway had he made it to 2020?

The suicide rate must be huge in the State of Disaster

IMO whatever we do regarding Spud should be a celebration.

Which counts 2020 out.

Club should and will acknowledge it of course but what can they really do.

Fox Footy should be all over it if they had any brains.

When we can all get around it again there should be a very big day for everyone at the docks.

I just don't know how to talk about it...well, I do in a sense. We don't talk about it. We talk 'around' it. What can we all say except Spud was a lovely fella who gave his heart and soul to us in a human kind of way. He was vulnerable being like that, because many of us walk around with a stick in our arse either out of survival instinct or competitive pressure.

I don't know when we crossed the rubicon and were no longer to discuss the 's' word in relation to a single soul, but we have evidently crossed it.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

It's loomed.

About this time it was leaking out from unbelievable rumour to horrible fact.

There was an article recently that Danny had got involved with some smart talking broker associated with Macquarie Bank. Danny lost $100k before bailing out.
But he recommended him to one of his Ballarat buddies who had recently sold his business and put several million in which he lost, and is now suing the bank for $5m.

I wonder if this, on top of the depression and the concussion was another factor in his fateful decision?
