Great news as Gears has signed on for the upcoming 2021 season. Great work skipper.

I am not a fan of this, I don't think he's in our best 22.

Hopefully he relinquishes the captaincy like Roo did, let a young leader (Steele) lead the team into a new era.

Good stuff!
Every team needs a good honest humble toiler and Geary is more than that

Pleased for Gears but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If it means Jack Steele isn't Captain next year - I'll be mightily pi$$ed. We've finally got a gun mid who influences games and others and who wants to be the man. I hope Gears sees that and helps transition to Steele as Roo did with him.

In a playing sense - I'll trust the coaches that they've got a role for him and that suits his body and skill level because we still can't afford to carry those that can't kick under pressure.

"I am continually amused by people who think they know more than Ratts and his coaches."

They can't seem to find room for him when casting votes each week, though managed to for 20 other players. Will be interesting to see how the B&F pans out.

As I keep saying, he's not best 22 (evidence supporting above) and not a walk up start, and he won't be better next year, most likely worse.

Him being captain again next year and an automatic start will hurt us.

So you think Ratts and his coaching panel don't rate him yet they pick him every week he's available. Why the hell would they do that?

I think he's about cooked but i reckon he'll be like a playing coach and spend majority of the year in the reserves teaching the youngsters.. and provide backup in case of injury.

I'd expect him to hand over the captaincy.

Good for list depth and stability, granted that he hands in the Captaincy.

Then it’s absolutely fvcked is what it is. Jack Steele wants to be the man. I think he’s shown this year that he’s up to it ... at least on field.

There are many reasons a player may vote for a captain; friendship, loyalty, not wanting to rock the boat, or credentials.

Sometimes a hard call needs to be made. Who decided to take the captaincy of Lenny to make Roo sole captain?

And coaches don't play favourites, and have their likes and dislikes?

Or are we only allowed to question the decisions of coaches you don't like, like Lyon?

Think it is a good thing. Allows for a leadership handover with him in the background to provide support. HE can then focus on a specific role the coaches can find for him. Love to think he wont be in best 22 next year but experience is very handy and as usually happens a few injuries its great to have experience than get less experienced if injury occurs.

Obviously excellent to have around the club, pre season and on the training track. A player and person to be admired. Our list has gone passed his appointment as Skipper. If he can genuinely hold his place next season, then great. Otherwise I hope this is thanks for his service, thanks for being our 2nd Premiership Captain and he gets an opportunity to be cheered off Marvel by the St Kilda faithful.
