Membrey and King.

Post: # 1891922Post Gershwin »

Can these two play well in the same team?

When we play King he is the target up forward with Butler, Lonie and now Higgins to feed on the crumbs.

Not sure of the role Membrey plays. And Battle is there too. And a CHF/resting Ruckman ??

My forward line would be:

Butler McKernan Membrey
Higgins King Lonie

Marshall to replace McKernan when he is fit.

Does Members have licence to transcend his inner Roo and work higher up the ground, especially when the team needs it like yesterday, he was like an extra midfielder yesterday.

Even dropped deep at one stage and took an important saving mark deep in defense just like Roo would do from time to time.

Outstanding performance all over the ground.

Yep Members can play a bit higher up the ground.

McKernan should be the first one out for King/Marshall/Ryder

King the target - Membrey off him 20 metres - if King is being heavily marked - use Members - it wont take long for the 2/3 on King to have to guard Membrey - he is a key forward in his own right - so is not just a get out kick!

King was what we were missing against GWS.

The thing about Membrey is that if he doesn't mark it, or the opposition will either mark or spoil to advantage.

King offers a contest, gets his hands on it, creates opportunities for the small forwards.

McKernan just didn't get his hands to the ball in enough contests inside F50, I'd pick Hunter ahead of him as he was versatile in defense.

We definitely need both King and Membrey in the side.

There's trouble in the Middle East.

Some politicians are talking.

And there is weather right around Australia.

If King can hold his marks, then he and Membrey will work fine in the forward half. I think we need to improve that contested mark stat across the forward line.

Watched Ben King get his hands to the ball a few times against WCE and not hold the mark. Looked familiar somehow. Hope Max can hang on to more when he returns from golf injury, i.e. hasn't lost too much confidence/is rusty. Dropping marks consistently is a double negative against expert rebounding teams like WCE: they feed off mistakes and opposition skill errors.

Membrey has been a consistent high and possibly unsung warrior for us for some time now. Wonderful pickup and a credit to his ability to improve himself, adapt to coaches, team changes and game plans. Sydney messed up that one, but one out of three or four is a pretty good strike record for them and they are well ahead in the trading with us.
