Nicky is my all-time favourite Saints player...and I've been around long enough to see plenty of great ones.

I was there on that great day at Victoria park in 1993.

Willy wagtails are my favourite native Australian bird. Never knew they were Cuz's clan's dreaming animal until he explained the jumper.

I have already bought a 2XX (should have bought a 3XX  ) It looks fantastic!

Just love the guy. He has had his ups and downs, like so many of us, and is a real survivor with so much to teach and inspire us all with.

Next to Buckets, he is pbly my favourite. Was definitely the first superstar I fell in love with. First Saints jumper had a number 7 on it

I’ve just had this memory pop into my head.

Went to a Saints game in the late 90s... I think it was either 98 or 99 and it was against Carlton. Think it was at the MCG. We were fancied to win but lost the game.

The big talking point of the day was that something set Winmar off and he gave away some frees and kept starting fights or something. The only real recollection I have was that he had a bit of moment with Loewe that ended in a push and shove.

Was 14 at the time and don’t really remember any of it

Can someone shed light on what that was about?

I wasn't following it closely, but it raised my ire.
The press were particularly nasty to Nicky if I remember..saying he totally lost his marbles basically..

Repercussions were big.

I am not sure he ever played for us again.

I love Elvis too and posted last week he is the nearest thing to the complete all rounder.

But I get a bit sick of changing our jumper to purple or a rainbow, or a different look to accommodate yet another special one-off round.

I love our jumper (esp with the large crest) and I want to see them in it EVERY week.
Don't want them wearing a different flavour of the week design each week regardless of the merit of the cause.

1998.

'The way I finished off the season showed I can still play.' Winmar's 230-game career at Moorabbin was on death row after he repeatedly clashed with Carlton's Anthony Franchina in Round 20. He also fended off teammates and officials who attempted to calm him.

He was dropped to the reserves the following week and recalled for the last round of the season and played in St Kilda's two losing final sides.

Winmar said people kept bringing up the Carlton incident as the reason for his departure.

'They use it as an excuse . . . so be it, but it's just ridiculous,' he said.

'People always want to remember you for the things you did wrong, not what you did well.

'I would have liked to have sat down with St Kilda and be given a legitimate reason for delisting me before it happened. It's just so wrong.' Winmar said nothing Franchina said to him sparked his behavior.

Gee,
Sad to see legends have such a bitter sweet relationship..Legacy unharmed, but personally, damage done..

Nicky had several bumpy experiences with us..Remember the salary-Molly Meldrum fiasco?

Yes his family had placed them there and once he got cut he stormed in shortly after and removed the lot.

Sad as now they are in a timber box under my house. Now instead of many people enjoying seeing them it's only the occasional few.

Molly helped sort it out.
But it was entirely caused by Nicky's d**khead manager Peter Jess who told him he should be getting $600k at a time when our cap was just over $3m.

There's some Youtube videos showing Jess on WoS being interviewed and amply demonstrating what a F#ckwit he was.
Sadly Nicky listened to him.

This came the week after the infamous win at VP.
The high and low points of his career just days apart!

Yep, bitter memories. Nicky went missing for awhile after that little episode. Jess really was a dick in that instance,

I’m probably jumping to conclusions, but wouldn’t it be just like a manager, to try to capitalize on some publicity, as I assume Jess did there. Makes you wanna puke, that one.
