Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
Dunstan has only been selected for 3 games in a season and a half and has been arguably St Kilda's best player in two of them.
Surely he has been harshly treated by selectors and some supporters.

He is unfairly maligned. Didn’t deserve to be dropped either of the last 2 times.

I raise a "Hill" to that. Selection integrity hasn't really been there the last few years.

Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
I wasn't referring to Hill or selection integrity. I was merely noting that Dunstan's second last game was an abysmal performance -and I'm a Dunstan fan - have been un unabashed fan of his since he came to the club.axcellence wrote: ↑Sun 30 May 2021 4:52pmI raise a "Hill" to that. Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
No he isn't. Even the man himself said going back to the VFL benefitted him greatly, and now it rocketed him to BOG. He was terrible when he got dropped, absolutely deserved it.
But as someone else said, selection integrity has been poor, a few others should've been dropped too.
Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"

Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
No, it wasn’t.
It was against the Tigers where the whole team played poor, and there were about 10 players that day that had a worse game than him.

Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
Dunstan is more of what we’ve got lots of - ibb mg side ball winners
Steele, Crouch, Ross, Bytel ....if playing Dunstan means dropping Bytel then sorry ...no
We are so thin for genuine rum carry and delivery from our midfield it’s not funny it’s why Treloar was the perfect fit and while Crouch has been great we are 1 paced

Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
Dunstan is a known quantity
Wins footy at the coal face, tackles well at stoppage.
Doesn’t win enough footy on the spread (generally, not yesterday)
Can be exposed due to lack of leg speed, and has average endurance for a mid.
Has a very strong body inside and can win contested ball and clearance.
Poor kick - even yesterday he chunked a few.
Yesterday, he came into the game in ripping form, had a good match up and did a superb job.
The recruitment of Crouch and desire to play Bytel has seen him slip out of the side. They decided to pick the team on merit yesterday, and what do you know, we won!!!

Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
It actually looked like a good side to me. I was impressed with Dunny, Wood and Claravino. Disappointed with Highmore though, but I'm not going to say he won't make it.B.M wrote: ↑Sun 30 May 2021 7:06pm Dunstan is a known quantity

They all had something to prove. Highmore, not so much.

Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
What has how anybody else played that day got anything to do with my opinion of his game that day?
So his abysmal game wasn't bad because others played equally abysmally or worse?
This thread is about Dunstan, not about any other player.
You're response that his game wasn't abysmal is, IMHO, just your usual attempt to bait and start an argument.
Personally I don't find your puerile attempts at starting angst/arguments on this forum funny in any way.

Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
Thing is yes, his previous game was poor - lots of turnovers from memory - but you don't bring a player in just for one game after they've been playing weeks and weeks in the twos and expect them to perform instantly at the level.

We played tge bottom side and lost last quarter 1 to 5 goals ?????B.M wrote: ↑Sun 30 May 2021 7:06pm Dunstan is a known quantity

But I guess we can spin it to say we scraped over the line by 20 points due to merit selection???
I’d argue against any other side we’d have lost
Dunstan isn’t the future - gone at seasons end for mine

And you replied to my statement by the way. If you’re too upset by people disagreeing with you then I suggest don’t engage in discussions with anybody.
Dunstan had 16 touches at 68% and 4 tackles that day (8th highest ranked player) which is by no measurement ‘abysmal’.
His performance compared to his teammate was completely relevant because, in my statement you quoted, I said he didn’t deserve to be dropped.

Re: Hope to see more of this guy.
Yes he played well against Cunnington who has the same running capacity as Dunstan, playing in the worst team in the comp. Wait and see how he goes against a quicker harder running midfield? History tells us that he gets horribly exposed for his lack of speed and ability to spread. As much as we want him to develop into a star its not going to happen, as the game is too quick for him, plus his kicking efficiency lets him down.

You’re entitled to your opinion just like everybody else on here
What I believe you’re not entitled to is to behave like a boorish bully boy without occasionally being called out for that behaviour.
It’s again just my opinion but your posts add very little value to this forum
Your constant belittling of the players, team, club and supporters make me question if you’re actually a Saints supporter or just a troll?

I post my opinion on this topic, then unprompted you decide to reply to me disagreeing, so I post evidence to back up my stance, and instead of doing the same for yours you decide to attack me personally... and then turn around a call me the ‘bully boy’?!
Then you claim I ‘constantly belittle the players’ in a thread where I’m saying how good Dunstan is playing and you’re saying he’s ‘abysmal’?!
Bizarre...
