Things aligning for 2023

Post: # 1922950Post B.M »

Ben King out of contract

Brett Ratten out of contract

Alastair Clarkson available

New assistants 2 this year 1 next year.

New Fitness guy - probably Russell

First 2022
Brett Ratten coach - do not extend him during season regardless

Outs
Billings (FA) Compensation - North
Ross (FA) Compensation - ????
Battle - Trade (Narkle)
Dunstan (FA) No Compo - GCS
Carlisle - Delisted
Frawley - Retired
Lonie - Delisted
Roberton - Retired
McKernan - Delisted
Alabakis - Delisted
Clavarino or Joyce (if we take Talia, he would need to pass medical)

Ins (invest in the draft this season)
Seriously consider Talia as a FA 2 year deal with trigger for 3rd
Mabior Chol (Essendon after him) 4 year deal
Quinton Narkle - really rate him!!!
Patrick Lipinski - rate him (cheap replacement for Billings)
First Round Pick (10)
Second Round Pick (28)
Third Round Pick (46)
Fourth Round Pick (64)
Rookie Selection (9)
Rookie Selection (27)

2023
In Clarkson (if we don’t finish top 6 in 22)

In B.King (very big on him and Max being the cornerstones to a premiership)

Out
Hannebery (800k), Geary, Kent, Ryder
FRDP (King) Need to lose another player in B King Trade

A lot of speculation in the OP, i'll watch and see if any of it comes true.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Think Geelong would do it

Henderson at the end, Hawkins at the end

IMO
Narkle is a better player than Battle

Cannot get in a midfield containing
Danger, Selwood, Duncan, Parfitt, Menegola

He has power and ability to play HF and inside

I rate him

Don’t overly rate Battle

Of course it’s speculation

No prediction on here is concrete, it’s a fan forum.

Just putting out my thoughts… can’t be accused of hindsight commentary then

Did the same in 06, 09, 10, 14 where I was scathing of the clubs off season
Hindsight agreed

Billings will sign 4 year deal offered to him, in my opinion.

If we take Talia or Parker or both as free agents we don't get any compensation picks for anyone we lose to FA.

Finding it interesting that Clarko is on your wish list B.M..

I personally think if Ratten makes finals in 2022 he stays. I see Clarkson with an open cheque, one we can't cash but the AFL can, see GCS or GWS.

I agree that Narkle is a great fit for our midfield & forward line, certainly fills a hole. Battle does not fill a hole for us nor does he create one should he leave.

If Parker was to walk to us makes losing Dunstan & Ross a huge win.

I agree on Bing, would cost us plenty in $$$ plus our 2022 & 2023 first round picks. We need to ensure we keep turning over kids in the draft though so hopefully receive a 2nd rounder back for 2023.

I think Parker is too expensive

We need to free up cap space, not cause a squeeze.

He is much the same as Steele and Couch - we need a point of difference mid

How many years has Parker got as an A Grader (at 29) is he willing to leave Sydney (is he captain?)

Agree
Billings may sign, as might Ross… but we’ll see

If we are in the market for a new coach this time next year, meaning if the wheels have fallen off the club in 2022 then it's safe to assume we will be moving towards another rebuild. So also probably safe to assume players will want to leave and players from other clubs won't want to come. Our "destination club" status will be revised to "relocated to Tasmania".

So there's that.

And my prediction is the Gold Coast is where Clarko is headed next. It's beautiful and sunny up there and they don't have COVID and the AFL will give Clarko a massive incentive to promote the game up there and last but not least, he will inherit a list chock full of first round DPs all coming into 50 to 100 game bracket. And not to mention he will have recruiting power like he has never had before.

And did I mention the beautiful tropical weather.

Take it to the bank.

I think Billings stays, so no second round pick there. Ross may go. Also think we will be taking at least 1 but maybe 2 NGA kids this year. I think Narkle possibly goes to freo as part of a deal around Cerra getting back to a Melbourne team. But of course, I have no real idea!

Don’t agree.

Steele, Crouch, Jones, Gresham, Clark, Narkle, Bytel, Byrnes, Lipinski, Two draft picks.

Would suffice for 2022

We are not winning the premiership next season… laying the foundation for 2023 IMO

It all depends on whether Clarke wants to move?

He may be intent on staying in the state he’s lived in for his entire life and his entire family is located?!

Leigh Mathews did it and now has significant property and business portfolio in the Sunshine State which is the perfect place for an ageing person to spend winters at.

As side note I'm told by contacts in the property game that most Queensland real estate agents are fielding an avalanche of calls from cashed up Victorians looking to escape the COVID state.

I'm guessing if Clarko bumps into Lethal he's going to get strong advice regarding the huge benefits from taking the gig which would essentially be the smartest business move anyone can take. As well as it doesn't come with all of the BS that comes from coaching a Melbourne club. He would be able to walk around freely and hardly anyone would give a stuff who he is.

It sells itself.

I have to ask, why can't we win the flag next year?

Did the Doggies preceding year to 2016 rule them out? Did Richmond's preceding year to 2017 rule them out?

If there's one thing that's certain, the position you finish in the year before is no guarantee of the position you will finish the following year.

Actually, the romantic in me sees us winning the flag in 2022. A great finish for Paddy Ryder's career, the exclamation point!

Plus the irony of Ratts becoming a Premiership coach whilst Carlton are still finding another way to damage their brand and ultimately screw themselves.

In fact, put $10 on the triple: St Kilda (Premiership), Steele (Brownlow), M. King (Coleman) - get greedy & add another $5 for a Hunter Clark Norm Smith 😉🤞

I really like this. This is the birthday cake plus the candles plus the presents and a surprise party thrown in for free. Please let it be so. I'm getting too old to wait for a 66 repeat Many of you weren't born when we won the one and only flag. I was and I can tell you it was unbelievable. Even Tommy Bent's statue was wearing a st kilda jumper that day. And against the filth made the victory even sweeter.

Very, very, fond recollections as a 16 year old being there at the game! Sitting in the old Olympic Stand at the Richmond end. Absolutely terrified in the last few seconds of the game as the ball was kicked into Collingwoods' forward line. A gush of relief as the ever reliable Bob Murray marked and thwarted the thrust and then as he kicked back out towards the Southern Stand, pure elation, as the crowd rose and roared to the sound of the siren. That moment has made my lifetime of resolutely following St Kilda, absolutely and undoubtably worthwhile!

Be lucky to make the 8 next year

Good run with injury, maybe

But if we suffer the same as this season. And lose Dunstan, Billings, Ross, Battle.
We will finish 8-12 IMO

Preferred your OP B.M..

This quoted post is very each way, very meh.

How can you say "lucky" when you have us possubly finishing 8th after losing those 4?

Saying that if we lose those 4 players and could possibly improve or slide two positions really speaks about your assessment of those players.

Injury will determine a lot, has the biggest impact on position IMO

We lose those 4 or 5 best 22 players the side maybe impacted

But who knows how players underneath develop
Did we see Highmore and Sharman coming this season??

Plus to offset the losses
Narkle best 22
Lipinski Depth Mid/HF

Chol
Ruck back up

I really do find it interesting that someone who does not rate coaches and measures a player by B&Fs and Brownlow votes, now wants Clarkson and does not see the loss of Ross as impacting the side in 2022.

Is this a sliding doors moment B.M. or were you always just playing Devil's Advocate?
