Stats can be deceiving the only stat that gets you to a position where you can challenge for a flag is the win loss stat . Yes we improved in the second half of the year but it was a disappointing result no matter what the stats say IMO

Stats can tell stories if you read into them properly

Fictional comes to if you use them selectively

Well at least we confronted the situation and made adjustments.

Some weaker clubs just go down the gurgler.

Doesn't actually address why we were so bad in first half?

Post bye factors: Sharman, different draw, pre bye matches really matter so we are missing when heat is on, Max suddenly blossomed. Fitness?

Thank Gallagher for Sharman, Roughy for Max's improvement? paradoxically Dunstan's form lifted our mid field briefly (thanks Luke, ta rah).

Would be impressed if stats could drill down to answer why we caved to Carlton. That loss and the loss to Adelaide I find inexplicable without having some dark negative thoughts about the on field structure and support systems. New assistants help with that.

The limp response against Geelong after being up 5 - where's the sub set of stats for that? Can heart size be measured on the from pea to lion sizes scale.

When did injured players return specifically Paddy and RoMa, take those two out of our side and our midfield looks second rate so that as much as anything helped our forward line.

Also I think the fact Kingy started to learn how to play AFL in the second half would have improved our forward line as much as anything else. Remembering for most of the first half of the season Kingy was starting to look like another high draft pick failure.

Fitness/preparation - poor (you don't sack your fitness guy for nothing)
Injuries to best 22 - worst in the league
Draw - hardest of all teams

All those things conspired to make 2021 a disappointment.

So....2022......how can it be better?

A better draw
Better preparation and fitness
The return of key players (Clark, Gresham, Ryder, Paton, Hannebery, etc)
The continued development of younger players (Clark, Coffield, Sharman, King, Byrnes, Connolly, Bytel, Battle)
Selecting the right players ta the draft

There are reasons to be optimistic about a much improved performance in 2022
