Shite Club.
List not AFL quality.
Game plan out of date.

ratten was heard to say, what's a game plan ?

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Jones and Billings automatically pushed back into a winning team.

Bomb it long, that's how King wants it.

Bye.

Little star quality

Poor structure. Have only two key positions covered.

Bereft of confidence.

SOFTNESS.

From the top down.

Virtue signalling, compassionate leave, pre-game hugging, meditation, nice guy vibes, bruise-free football.

Desperately needed a hard-nut coach to come in and shake things up.

But they're so soft they re-signed the coach on the basis of a few wins.

I thought Steele was going to be the power mid.

If you are going to play slow then you need elite kicking - our players are more likely to turn it over.
If you want to run the ball you need 2 or 3 guys with you as bail out as well as guys who can think their way thru - we rarely have more than one (usually Sinclair) and when a quick bail out handball is required either there is no-one there or it misses the target.
our turnovers are both embarrassing and dis-spiriting.
Why has this been exposed now- oppositions have figured this out. We are a slow team- the back 6 tho doing the best they can are not quick so they will try and kick their way out- we all can see how that is working.
Our forwards cannot go with running defenders who are coached well- we have just seen what happens when you allow a team to have runners streaming from defence to the outside as an option.
Finally- our forward 50 efficiency is dismal- skill errors constantly lead to turnovers.
We can't kick reliably, we do not run to support each other or if we try we are slow and therefore ineffective.
I have been a supporter for more years than most - it is hard to see that we are still so far from being competitive.

- Possible internal rifts within the team. The level of cohesion has gone down the crapper.

- Ratten’s game plan has been foiled by all the opposition clubs and plan b is b for bust.

- Max King’s confidence is shot and our forward line is dysfunctional.

Steele was one offender, several of his handpasses went behind a guy, who had to pull up and scramble to get it, but a Doggie usually did.
What a captain

It certainly looked like players weren’t trying in qtr 1 like they haven’t brought in here at all
Like they all just realised Brett the emperor has no clothes….

Ya know, I don't think Max King's confidence is shot at all.
I think he is having a real crack, and he is showing some rumble 'n ready , but I also think there isn't cohesion anymore.
I think we are not a team in the forward line. Membery is his doing his part, like a private eye, his own private outfit, Butler his own private show, and Higgins looks like a boxer in a ring of his own. We are not a team.

The backline looks better. At least there is some finger pointing, which indicates a degree of group accountability..

But I don't think Max has lost confidence. I think he has passed beyond that point. I think he 100% believes he is the real deal, the goods, but, unfortunately, the penalty that arrives is (a,b,c) and he has to now execute (x,y,z)

It cannot be the players' skill levels. How many times do we see players leave St Kilda and go on to glorious careers elsewhere. We are incapable of player development.

so my top 3:
the gameplan (lack of)
the player development (lack of)
a coach who can inspire them to play above themselves (lack of)

My shot,

1) agree with cwrcyn re. on field...mids weak, structurally weak
2) Football department weak - forced into crappy deals, Hannas, Hill and Ratts
3) On going piss-weak relationship with AFL - China/Cairns/NZ etc., and slavery to political flag bearer for AFL political hygiene maintenance...

Try not to be too pessimistic about Ratten. As you said, we have him for at least 2 more years, but we have seen coaches being able to turn things around at other clubs. Sure, this season seems to over now, but we’ll have an opportunity reset the table over the off-season. Look, I had no idea what to expect before the year. Some suggested we could be a bottom team. There were plenty promising signs in the first half of the season. The mystery is how the team has become unstuck. We genuinely lack consistency. There really seems to be a lack of mental toughness. When things don’t go their way, seem to go right into their shells. This team needs to harden up. And Ratten needs to start getting tough on some of his players to pull their weight.

So true
But I would just like the club to STFU
Every far king week that I hear shite coming out of the club I just about pencil in a loss .
Yes , I know that there's bigger things than footy in the world , but from the football club , I just want to hear about football . Keep all other BS in house. ( and yes I know it's important . And yes I'm sorry for anyone who's ever been connected to the club who has died or lost a relative / partner / child / pet / beloved granny or anyone going through a serious health concern or has been a victim of racism , sexual abuse in any form , bullying ..etc..etc... )
Life's tough......as any saints fan will tell ya .

My prediction is the club will decide to trade out half the list to teams so they can develop into stars so we can rebuild again.

Max King
Jade Gresham
These two players transcend the issue, both key players in key areas of the ground who were bought in through the draft and who the team is being built around in those areas of the ground. Both are spuds.

1. Players passion for the club
2. Poor skills
3. Poor game plan and poor zoning
