How many are left?

Post: # 2031725Post Bruce G McAbee »

With the sad news of Kevin Cowboy Neale's passing I am wondering how many of our 1966 Premiership team are left?

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

So far, we’ve lost : Doc, Yabby, Rodger Head, Jim Read, Ian Cooper, Alan Morrow, Travis Payze and now Cowboy.

Backs: Roger Head (dec), Bob Murray, (81 years) Brian Sierakowski (77)
Half-Backs: Verdun Howell (86), ian Synman (84), John Bingley (81)
Centres: Jim Reed (dec), Ian Stewart (80), Jeff Moran (76)
Half-Forwards: Barry Breen (75), Darrell Baldock (dec), Ian Cooper (dec)
Forwards: Alan Davis (74), Kevin Neale (dec), Alan Morrow (dec)
Followers: Brian Mynott (78), Daryl Griffiths (77)
Rover: Ross Smith (81)
Reserves: Travis Payze (dec), Kevin Billing (780

Only thirteen left, the youngest are in their nid-70's. It is well past time to honour their legacy by winning another premiership.

Barry Breen would be an obvious choice to present the premiership cup to Jack Steele and Ross Lyon. As a wildcard, Kevin Billing to show him our appreciation for not taking his dressing gown off for the entire game, which was 57 years ago next Sunday. Or Big Carl, so often overlooked but whose contributions in the 1966 season went a long way to carry us to the Grand Final, a legend of the Club.
