Anyone hear Goose discussion on 927?

Post: # 460187Post Animal Enclosure »

A bloke at work said that he heard Mick McGuane talking on Sport 927 about Goose & said that he wants to leave.

Did anyone else hear this? I've tried to find the podcast on the 927 website but to no avail.

Is McGuane allied to any current AFL club?

Thanks Curly... if it's just $$$ then you would hope that Goose would stick with his mates that have stayed for less $$$.

Although I desperatly want Goose to stay at least if it was Hawthorn we can at least drive a decent deal out of them and they have players we would actually want Jordan Lewis comes to mind as a straight swap.

i would think that we would be offering him 280k-300k per year over 3years. I think another team might offer him 450k over a longer period.

Thats alot of $$$

after hay and rawlings the hawks defence is their weak suit (sadly when we played them the first time we didn't exploit this)

with a power defender like maguire they would have a damn powerful line to line team.

if max is brittle again in 08, fisher will be our only quality tall defender.

Maguire isnt worth 450K over a perod of more than 3 years.

If he got offered that I would advise him to go.

I know!

It's amazing. Even when people are talking about draft picks - you'd only dream of a pick from number 5 to number 20 turning our to be a genuine CHB of Goose's quality.

Before his OP he was a superstar. Then when he started to hit form after recvoering from the surgery, he badly broke his leg. His form last year, considering his size and the injury he was recovering from was remarkable really.

Such short memories. A fierce, intimidating CHB who can kick goals, beat Anthony Rocca in a strength situation then the following week chase down Graham Johncock giving him a 10m head start!

It would be a disaster if Goose didn't play out his career with us.

Unfortunatley Dan players do leave and as they are on lists you can presume they are required players. Goose is very important to us and would be on the best true CHB in the AFL so if he does go we must get what hes worth.

would be loathe to let him go and the club must do everything it can to keep the core of this list together.

but you are right. if he must go we must make sure we get full compensation ... that means a potential future champion with most of his career ahead of him

do the hawks have that sort of commodity on offer? perhaps buddy franklin

thats my point its easy to say he a required player, even easier to say he shouldn't leave for money.

But we cant afford to match an offer like that & I would find it hard to hold it against a guy who leaves for 150k more per year.

Our club didn't make finals, training facilities are below other clubs & our board is in turmoil - why should he stay for less money?

Instability.

And we are seeing the result.

St Kilda have a history of instability.

And look at their record.

The two go hand in hand.

Positioned with (in the coach's words) 15 players who could perform on the final Saturday in September and what happens?

Instead of supporting the club and encouraging the necessary improvements in half a dozen players(at least) on our list, we implode - from within.

Why?

Because we are dissatisfied with the inability to win a premiership.

Because we have a history of injuries - which includes broken legs, knee reconstructions and the like which are part and parcel of a game such as Australian Rules football. Even Ponting has ripped a hamstring, not to mention Watson!

Because our slip back down the premiership ladder in 2006 has cost us revenue, including membership revenue and we have had to cut the cloth accordingly.

So Judd does not want to talk to a club in turmoil.

How unsurprising.

And the turmoil may claim others, including Maguire if press reports are to be believed.

This is the real price of what is going on, with a group calling for an EGM with a view to "spilling" the Board. And the personal attacks we are seeing.

Simply, the premiership is further away.

If ever achievable at a club such as St Kilda.

Strong, stable administrations lead strong, stable and competative clubs.

And you need to be competative over a sustained period of time to deliver the holy grail of a premiership.

Look at what Judd is saying - and look at a club like Port Adelaide where its administration had to deal with the Williams/Scott situation.

Turmoil !!!

You sound like Chicken Little

So I'm wondering, if Mother Judd Theresa was willing to talk to us, and did anoint us with his golden hands, which of the '15 premiership ready' players would you pack off to Perth to the Eagles?

I mean that wouldn't cause any 'turmoil' or 'unrest' would it....

Surely the club would look at Goose as a matter of urgency. Will be a very fragile looking backline without him, especially with Maxys injuries. Wonder if its just money or is Goose looking for a change of scenery.

see thread below HIS manager says he wants to stay.

the coach mentions team structure with him firmly in place as does the clubs football manager.

contracts have been known to be signed in OCT.

That's what managers are for surely  they can negotiate the contract and the player can sign when he returns

Given the fact that Max is nearing the end and Chips can't hold down a KP to save himself, our club's biggest priority in the next fortnight is to have Goose sign on the dotted line.

And go public with it too, not that he's resisting signing a deal, but that the club is 'desperate' for him to sign and that they see him as a 'critical part of our next premiership, for the next decade', etc.

Sometimes you need to put the moral acid on these blokes.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
