Who were our better players cut down due to injury?

We have had posts on the Flops and Duds given away....

Who do think are some of better players that were cut down in their prime or at the very least had the potential but injuries sold them short ???

Jason Cripps
Silvio Foschini

Joel Smith... He went on to go OK but we lost him at a crucial point in his development.

Hamill is another one that comes to mind, not in his prime but before injuries he still had a lot to offer.

I just hope we never have to add Goddard, Koschitzke, Ball or Xavier to this list

Even though he kept playing....his injury saw him pensioned off to FF.

Left on a wing he could well have won a Brownlow...

Was going to be a champion (we didn't have him on the injury list for 3 years for no reason).

Interesting fact on Crippsy...

He played 3 matches in a row... Under 3 different coaches...

2001 - Round 15 vs Adelaide - Malcolm Blight
2001 - Round 16 vs Bulldogs - Grant Thomas

Yeah, George was a brilliant player, I remember him having his first training run for us and gee... hand passed over the top of a player only to pick up the ball again and kick the goal from the boundary

I think he played Gt, Blight, then his southport grand final, then under 18's GF and there was another game

So he had 5 different coaches in 5 consecutive games

Yeah, in disposal and skill but maybe not in evasive skill, but there was a time (just one year) ... Yeah we have another champ....sad really sad that one

i never rated him however he could do a half decent job against the monster stay at home full forward

he usually broke even with them and allowed max and goose to tackle the poorer forwards up the ground

Totally agree with comments about Cripps - would have been a champion. But you really can't go past Brian Gleeson - win the Brownlow & never play again - was devastating! Bill Stephenson was another cut down in his prime just when we were on the verge of something special.

Craig Callaghan is one that springs to my mind, was one of my favourite players, averaged about 2 goals a game when he was fit for us, didnt he?

I have vague memories of barry pascos's career being constantly interrupted by injuries also

I remember that we were able to take Harves out of the centre & put Cripper in for no loss. He was a really hard worker like Bob. Tough & pretty skilled. Cripps injury was a big loss.

Remember his comeback game in Adelaide when he kicked the first goal? The way the players ran to him to share the moment was incredible... again, like Harves against WC last year.

Was that Adelaide game Riewoldt's first game? I think so...

No doubt Gellie was a big loss - he was a genuine rover, hard, tough and gut runner. Could have been one of our greats!!

Geoff Linke was a tragedy - he starred in SA, we got him over to us, and he showed plenty in the pre-season games. He was a good size, mobile, strong mark and thumping kick - ideal CHF!! Started his first game brilliantly, we all started nodding our heads - yep, we finally have a star CHF - but snap, he did his knee and that was that.

John McIntosh - we never got the full value for our investment due to knee injuries. Great player. And of course - Aaron Hamill, had so much more to give for us, and he wanted to do it.

I'm with you on that one.

Dirty Harry was a hard tough player who could win a ton of the ball in midfield and was a very clever goal sneak when moved forward.

suffered 2 knee reco's in 4 years at the saints and that cut him down.

Shame as he was a more then handy player.

Yes it was...and we lost to Adelaide by 93 points..but that goal of Crippers in the first couple of minutes was special
