NAB team....post Intra club..who can play

Post: # 516531Post saintsRrising »

From RL

"Riewoldt will play and (Max) Hudghton, Gwilty (James Gwilt), they're the three obvious ones, other than that no one else (will play)."
(Note that is no one else from the players who did not play in the intra club.)

And

Coach Ross Lyon said he was impressed with Gardiner's progress over summer and both he and Geelong premiership ruckman Steven King would play in the pre-season NAB Cup.

"I'm on record (saying) if they stood up today, they would play next week," Lyon said".

So the NAB team will have King, Gardi, Roo, Max and Gwilt as definates......with then a selection of the guys who played in the intra club game.

All others who missed will not play.

Unfortunately that means we will have to wait to see the Schneiderman in action.

From Otiman:

Here's a list of players that didn't play.

Gram
McEvoy
L. Fisher
Hayes
Hudghton
Riewoldt
Schneider
Ball
Goddard
Gilbert
Ferguson
Maguire
Gwilt
Connors
Attard
Haretuku

Mind you I thought I saw Ferg run on occasionally???...maybe another casey player though???

Raph S Fisher Geary
Fiora Dal Joey
X Roo Harvey
GTrain Kosi Milne

King Armo Mini

C Gardiner Blake Gwilt M Gardiner Eddie Jones
(how many on the bench for a NAB game?)

would be very happy to see that team out there next week

maybe stevens in front of howard or if fir would baker get a game?

Its suprising how confident I feel about that team when we have so many rookies or 2nd year players in there. Very young team but they have a real chance to push for round 1 selection, especially geary, armo and jones.

How much fitter did armo look! looked like he lost a good 5-6 kilos

Armo has lost 5kgs, he looks the goods. I'm expecting big things from him in the years ahead. CJ looked pretty good also, but i do remember him starring in the intraclub last year. i do forget he did his collar bone last year though which probably had some effect on his footy after he came back..good signs though, looks like there's a few promising kids on our list.
Beautiful goal by Van Rheenen

I'm really surprised that Max is considered to be a definite...
If I had to pick a lineup I would probably go with this:

FB: Dempster Hudghton Baker
HB: R.Clarke S.Fisher Geary
C: C.Jones Armitage Montagna
HF: X.Clarke Riewoldt C.Gardiner
FF: Gehrig Koschitzke Milne
R: King Dal Santo Birss
I/C: Fiora M.Gardiner Harvey Blake Allen Eddy Dempster Van Rheenan

My god this is an exciting time to be a saints supporter, that team would probably be at least competative in the AFL, still bottom 4 but they could atleast make a contest, add HAYES, Gram, Schneider, Ball, Goddard, Gilbert and Maguire and they should almost definitely be a top 4 team...

EDIT: Forgot Baker can play...

RL has stated that Hayes will not play next week.

He wants to make sure that he is ripe for the H&A and does not want to risk him.

This spine of ours is starting to shape up nicely. Of course it's quite fragile if Max goes down, our defense starts to get exposed.

Hudghton
S. Fisher
Dal Santo/Montagna (I rate Montagna higher than Dal)
Riewoldt
Koschitzke

hey otiman what do you think of our mids bad habit of pulling up when running at goal and tring to kick snaps around the bottom. birss, joey both did that on the weekend. Would rather see them attack the goals straight on and take on the smoother.

I would like to see goose be given full back to develop into. With the break his turning circle might not be what it used to be.

how good is it having the g just running around creating havoc with no stress of being the spearhead!

You know, kicking a ball straight like we are all taught isn't really the most accurate. It allows us to see the goals well, but look at rugby kickers for their action, and it's more of a snap than a "run straight in and kick".

If you know where the goals are, I think either way can pay off, depending on style, snap kicks are also harder to smother, and putting up another "what if?" for defenders to consider is always a good thing.

personally I think all the great rovers attack the goal face and keep the ball low. When they stop and drift back onto it as a snap they seem to lose momentium. I always was taught to kick through the ball to get more accuracy. Personally I see it as a lack of confidence in kicking for goal. (btw I think the likes of milne kick better around their shoulders but I'm more focused on goal kicking mids)

Pretty sure it will be the Red team, minus Bakes if injured, plus Riewoldt, Hudghton, and the best of the Black team, probably Armitage and Chivers, with McQualter and Eddy to get a run if there's room on the bench, as midfield rotations will be the key.

On goalkicking, Fiora is one who has had lots of trouble with kicking goals on the run, and he bagged one (maybe two?) on the run yesterday.

woudlnt you have the goose at chb.
i know he broke his leg and all, but he is a gun when he is up and running.
not only is he courageous, but a boooming kick and fairly quick.
i remember a couple of years ago against the hawks he kicked 2 or 3 from rebounding and jsut streaming up the middle and banging them from 50.

gehrig will dominate this year and i will cry.
i was so heart broken when he retired.
i was at the game.
and i got mum to tape the game.
i still have it

5 goals + the last 2+ the last one after the siren with what would of been his last kick
