Sir Robert would be as critical of his game as any observer, sometimes more so. If he feels he is not contributing to the team, he will pull the plug himself.

I'm content to leave the decision to him and RL.

The way he's playing compared to the rest of our team, he'll end up winning our B&F

Harvey was fine, wasn't the problem out there, besides Lenny, the rest of the midfield were very average indeed.

People may forget what veteran leadership does.

Though he may not dominate like he used to.

He's still in our best 22 cause of the knowledge he has of the game.

Just look back one week when he cut right through the middle of Carlton and one C.Judd.

Champions may slow down, but they never lose their knowledge of how to play the game.

The man has done so much for us that I think most would agree he should have the final say on when he does pull the plug.

i'm going to say something that a lot of saints supporters probably think but can't say it out aloud,

Robert Harvey might just be our achilles heal.

I don't think he will be there at the end of the season.

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

I thought Harvey was one of our few decent players last night to be honest. He is still the king of those 20m passes into the 50, which he executed perfectly last night on several occasions. Also worked well in some situations where he acted as a link in a tight contest (ie. one of our boys gets the ball out of the pack to Harvey, who either handballs or kicks to advantage).

The thing about harvey is he is in his twnety-first season. Every year, his body gets older and we should be dropping our expectations of him accordingly. For example, las tyear he averaged about 20 disposals a game which is phenomenal. This year, probably at about 16-17 which is decent and I would say a pass-mark for a bloke like Harve's.

The bottom line is this - this man has given us supporters so much already, he owes us no more. If he barely gets a possession for the rest of the year, I won't care. It's not about him doing well anymore, its about the damn team giving something back to him for a change. Burke, Loewe, Buckley, Riccardi, all these players retired before they ahd the chance to win the flag, and Harvey may go the same way.

it's about how much we love this man, and how much he has given us over the years. it's not as good as a premiership, but its the next best thing.

Agree.
A couple of his chip passes were just superb.
Spotted his target in heavy traffic.
Great vision.
Great delivery.

There was also a moment when Max(?) or someone had the ball in the backline and was looking for a lead.
The Dogs had manned up and nothing was on.
Harvey ran from the Moorabbin Wing side to the Noth West flank to provide the lead.
A 100m sprint.
Fantastic effort.

Though poor that no-one else showed enough initiative and effort to provide an option.

What an amazing string......

Harvey's role is now bye and large now that of a link man.....

If our ball winners get smashed his supply is going to get restricted.

Banger was running and presenting all night. Those meant to be winning the ball...weren't.

Only reason his stats were down (and they were still ok) is because we got smashed in the clearances after quarter time.

I love Banger and all that he has done for the past 20 seasons but I hope he hangs up the boots at the end of this year premiership or not.

Harvey had 18 possessions, most being highly effective, and was only on the ground 64% of the time. When he was playing 100% of the game this would equate to about 28 possessions and we would be singing his praises.

He is far from finished, and barring injuries, will still be one of the leading players in the best and fairest this year.

i said this at the start of the year and ill say it again If we as a team are still relying on Bangers to get 20+ possesions a game we are in some deep trouble . not a slur against the great man but we really have to be able to get the job done without him having to pull somthing spectacular out

And that is the issue...it is not Banger....who should only be expected to bea middle to lower ranked player.

Banger is doing what is expected of him.......

It is the "younger" mids of Dal and X along with a pool of other players who were shocking....both players should be at their peak, but both were clearly below Harvey's impact in this game.

well what we got here is filled placings.

or who do we drop to be a better team...

can we have both milne & schneids in the same team?

riewoldt would he be better running off the wing / centre rather then being CHF, would it be better having Kosi at CHF or gehrig CHF and kosi Fullforward

Harvey starting off the bench?

our midfield does it need a shakeup, maybe change some players where they start, mix it about,

as sheenan said maybe play ball up forward i am with this idea, and have the likes of Armo, Hayes, Dal, X running the midfield during the game,

Drop, Fiora,Raph,Blake,

they just dont seem to fit in, maybe with out structure bring in some young guys, the season isnt over yetl!

thats exactly the point

i have a similar issue with my job where the new bloke just starting out dont give it their all cause they know that the older more experianced guys will do that extra to pull them out of the poo every time . i honestly hoped that bangers could get a free ride through this year where all we asked of him was to be accountable and enjoy the year as the younge guys took over the reighns but the younge guys are just tooo damn lazy and leave it up to the oldest bloke in the AFL !! thats why i think wee need to cut out some of the pedestrian players in our team , in the NAB cup the first couple of games when we had the youth in the team they were exciting they were dearing they gave it thier all they were making the most of their opertunity and didnt take their selection for granted ... i look at teams like essendon collingwood the bulldogs hawthorn and port and all of those sides have got kids coming through generating excitement and pasion and a drive to go after everything and anything then i look at our team and i see a bunch of pampered primadonnas who feel they dont have to do anything extra any more cause they have cracked the starting 22 and they are guarrenteed a spot each week, the fans will only remember the great games they had when trying to work themself into the starting 22 not the lack lustre games where they do just enuff to prevent getting dropped each week .... its not good enuff and we will NEVER win a premiership with that mentality .

Lovely bloke Harvs, still getting the ball, but nowhere as effective as in the past. I would have preferred he retired at the end of last season. We really should have had a younger developing player doing that role by now.

Is the continuing career of Robert Harvey actually hindering the development of our midfield?

I don’t ask this question because I think Harvey is no longer effective. I ask because I think the other players in the middle (except Ball & Hayes) refuse to step up and produce the goods when Harvey is playing.

The NAB cup final was a perfect example. When the game was there to be won/saved, who was the St Kilda midfielder that stood up? Robert Harvey.

Do players like Dal Santo, Montagna, Gram and X Clarke need the great man to actually retire before they do the things that he does? If so, then this is an indictment on them!

Can the same assertion be made of the forward line too? I actually thought that Gehrig retiring was a positive. It would force the forward line to adapt. Kosi would have to take the mantle of a main target inside 50. Milne and Schneider would learn to go to the drop of the ball at his feet. Now Gehrig is back and our forward line has not moved on.

It should be “sink or swimâ€
