If you don't mind me asking, why was it important who took that kick in?

He was nearby and just demanded the ball.

He gave one of those dinky little passes to Raph, who hewld it up and eventually pumped it long down the line.

whoever.

Point is it got to Raph.
And whenever the ball gets to Raph you know something silly is about to happen.
3 points up, 28 minutes + in, so not long to go.

What would any thinking player do ?

Answer - look for a loose player to chip it to - to soak up time.
Even if it meant going sideways or backwards.

What did Raph do ?
Kicked it long to a CONTEST.

That decision nearly lost us the game.

Raph - can't cut the bacon.
We need another tallish defender to come in and not sure who...Ferguson - long time with no result, Gwilt - hmmm......not sure if he is a forward, back or neither...where has he been playing in the Scorps?
I think that Dempster, Gram and Raph are all too similar in the way they play...

Very harsh. He had a look and no one presented as RL has acknowleged so he played on and kicked to the boundary line like everyone should. Not his fault the players there didnt create a contest.

Exactly. You can only give off a dinky kick that soaks up time when someone is clearly free. Richmond, to their credit, manned up all loose men. Raph, to his credit, evaded a defender, ran a further 10 metres and kicked long to a contest next to the boundary line. Looked like text book stuff to me.

The fact that couldn't win the ball from the ensuing stoppage wasn't Raph's fault surely?
