Casey team rd 10 - ABC -reports and result

Post: # 585180Post saintbrat »

Casey faces an interesting assignment on Saturday against Melbourne-affiliated Sandringham following the news that they will switch alliances at the end of the season. The fixture begins at 1.10pm and will be broadcast live on ABC television.

team will be announced later tonight-

Certainly the most interest in a VFL game in a long time, with these two clubs swapping alignments at the end of the year.

Will be a good contest too, 3rd vs 4th.

Steven on the back flank? interesting...
Perhaps they're looking at giving him a run over Gram in the future...
Very disappointing to see Birss in there, hopefully Armitage will gain some touch in the 2s and come back with a vengance...

McQualter is not in the Scorpions team. Does that indicate he will play in the senior team?

Expect that Birss and Fiora may be joining the team in Sydney, perhaps the reason that Armitage was left off the emergency list.

Edit - and McQualter as said above not named.

I'd love to have all of our VFL games happen the day after our AFL matches wherever possible. It allows all emergencies who didn't get to play, a chance to retain match fitness, form, and to prove their worth.

preview
http://blogs.abc.net.au/grandstand/2008 ... l_vfl#more
With the teams sitting in third and fourth on the ladder and separated only by percentage, this match will be a chance for one of the sides to go into the halfway mark of the season full of confidence and well-placed inside the top four.

Both sides are coming off big wins last weekend, with the Scorpions proving far too good for reigning premiers Geelong, while Sandringham comfortably accounted for Collingwood.

For the Scorpions, all eyes will be on young captain Kyle Matthews who was again named in his side’s best last week. If he can keep up his good form and lead from the front, his side stands every chance of knocking off the Zebras.

Lets hope our rookie listed players play well and push to get promoted, i.e Miles and Eddy...

Scorps by 8 points (or thereabouts) at half time

Game is very scrappy with both defenses on top and some very sloppy foot skills by both sides.

Rix probably the best Saint out there, although Armo and Allen both busy. All 3 have kicked a goal. McEvoy played an excellent 2nd quarter around the ground although Jamar is killing him and Rix at the stoppages.

Birss started well, Eddy getting some touches and Howard got a few touches in the 2nd Qtr. Leigh Fisher and Miles quiet.

Very boring. A struggle to stay awake watching.

From what I've seen Miles has had a few clangers but is getting the ball, Birss easily the best of our players in there, Armitage has been fair - had a few good tackles but has been caught a couple of times as well. Rix is battling well, looks huge out there.

Casey up 34 - 28 at half time.

It was hardly "Reigning premiers Geelong" last week, I think they had 14 players missing from their Grand Final side.

3/4 time, up by 2 goals still. (I didn't see the first half, will catch it on ABC2 some time this week).

Skills are shocking.

Sandringham are playing exactly like the Saints play. Large floods and breaking down across half forward with no targets to kick to. But the scores are close and they're in for a chance if they switch things about.

Just listening to their 3/4 time address, the players look like they're about to fall asleep. Quite Ross Lyon-ish, I must say.

Scorps by a goal at 3/4 time.

Birss 18 touches, Armo 17, Allen 3 goals and playing well on Nathan Carroll, who was reported for charging Leigh Fisher. Typical Carroll dog act, slammed into Fish's back with his forearm after Fish had completed a regulation chest mark. 50, reported and dragged

Lucky to be still in front, Sandy kicked 4.7 to 3.1 that quarter.

Very few AFL players playing, which is why the low standard...the weakest Casey side this year...

I think it's our AFL players that are the main offenders on the skill errors.

Guys like Panozza, Wall, and Matthews playing extremely well.

Rix is probably BOG.

Howard will play a few AFL games before the end of the season, he is showing continual improvement.

McEvoy not playing well.

As mentioned, Allen's four goals have been great, but only half the story. Is playing up the ground and taking plenty of marks in the middle (one of his goals was from a 50m given (~25m of it actually given) from a mark inside the centre square. Looks to be building up to some good fitness levels.

Birss a class above, as is Armitage. Both are clearly AFL level players.

Miles had a quiet one, but still looks like he has the pace and ability to find space. Could play on a wing, up forward, or down back. He could play the Sam Fisher role when chips needs to play on the bigger forwards.

Jack Steven had an average game. Needs to start finding the ball while not under pressure.

I'm onboard the Silvagni recruitment bandwagon now. Was rarely beaten.

Funny you see that.

In the first half I saw McEvoy get some good ball in the ruck, Silvagni butcher the ball shockingly, Birss quiet and Howard struggle.
Rix was good up forward though.
Wall and Matthews good too.

Fair point, I mentioned earlier that I missed the first half.

Armitage's final quarter has been something special.

Armo clearly BOG....this adds further proof to his omission being an utter joke.

According to teh commentators

'Armitage was a cut above the other players'

28 possessions, 10 in the last

Clearly best on teh ground

Armo interviewed after the game, said after being dropped earlier in the week' he just wanted to go out and get a bit of it'

It's interesting watching them sing the song after the game - the Saints players have some difficulty remembering the words! :)
