Frankston By Pass

Post: # 664302Post St Marcus »

Just on my lunchbreak and reading headline of the Herald Sun that the Frankston bypass is to be commenced next year - ahead of schedule

I assume this bypass will still run next to our new training facility. Hard to tell from the map in the HS but looked like it was in the right location.

If so this must be a big plus for Belverdere Park. Would mean greater exposure to the ground especially for signage rights with 30 to 40k vehicles (a guess) passing it each day.

Don't really know if it will improve access ?? but IMHO its a good sign for us that prehaps the club did get the better site!!

Thoughts

Cheers

Mark

No point in building a bypass in Moorabbin as it isnt that crowded on the roads.

Save the money. Leave 10 mins earler and enjoy the bay views

Total waste of money imho

it is a lot of money, and could be spent much better but the congestion at the end of the frankston freeway is an absolute nightmare.

Disagree...

If you live in Frankston, you would understand.

I live approx 2km from the Frankston Railway Station and on most nights it takes me about 15 minutes to get home..

Far too much traffic driving through Frankston that live in the Mornington area and the freeway is just far too busy with traffic lights at the end and a Stony Point railway line about 1km after the freeway ends.

There are about 4 sets of traffic lights after the freeway ends that clog up and congest the traffic EVERY peak hour

It has nothing much to do with Sorrento, although on weekends during summer the end of the freeway is clogged up for about 3km

I'm with you on this one St Fid... It will save me 2 roundabouts and 7 sets of lights twice daily! The time and petrol savings will be substantial.

BRING IT ON!!!

I agree, during peak hour the Frankston Freeway is usually backed up till the North Frankston Offramp and sometimes almost till Seaford Rd.

The traffic has become horrendous through that part of Frankston ... absolute nightmare at times.

This is a much needed road.

I love Ross Lyon ... buys a house in Templestowe ... now about 20 mins from Seaford and our new training base with Eastlink and the Frankston Bypass. Great forward thinking.

Handy of the players though... they can live a nice lifestyle down on the peninsula & get to training without having to go through Frankston!

Oh yeah, been near South Road and Chesterville, East Boundary and Jasper Roads in both morning and afternoon peak hours?
After 45 years, the South Road extension is now open and from where I live in Melbourne most liveable suburb, it's becoming harder to get out onto South Road up to the Nepean Highway.
Have to agree though, I wish we could stay at Moorabbin.

Most.pointless.road.ever
This would have to be the most pointless quote ever IMO..

Made from someone that does not live in Frankston or beyond...

The congestion between 5 to 6 pm is horrendous at the end of the freeway...

and roads connecting to Moorooduc Hwy (after the lights at the end of the Frankson Freeway) are jammed blocked and motorist have to wait at least 3 to 4 cycles of green lights to enter and drive home...

Many residents that live in Frankston that chose to go by public transport are in the position of waiting 10 to 15 minutes to clear the Frankston deadlock...

The Frankston Railway Carpark is full by 7am and the rest look to go to park at Seaford, which has a much larger parking facility...

Those that do have the same problem in the afternoons as myself...

They are either trying to get off the Freeway or trying to enter it after the Freeway ends...

Sorry, but your comment is said with little knowledge IMO

and to label it as the "most pointless road ever" just really sh1ts me..

It is not being built for people travelling to Sorrento on a sunny weekend FFS

Will be the best thing that could happen for the residents of Australia's best city.

The new shopping complex (Harvey Norman) etc. is only going to clog up the end of Frankston freeway even more when it finally opens.

Can't wait for it to be built.

Yep, one of the most long awaiting and most anticipated road constructions to be built IMO...

The best thing that could happen to the chaos that happens each and every night.

and also for those wishing to travel to Sorrento for a weekend sightsee..

The Grand opening of that new shopping precinct (at the end of the Frankston Freeway was meant to be today (the 16th)...

One of the four major investors (Spotlight) was due to open its doors today...

Don't know if Harvey Norman opened today, but there is meant to be in excess of 30 new shops, with underground car parking, I am led to believe...

I am rapt that the new bypass is not going to be a tollway, and maybe the local MP Allister Harkness, a fellow Saints supporter had some input

LOL..wow ive stirred up a hornets nest..I'm glad I didnt bring this up at a home game..id be beaten to a pulp from left AND right ;-);-)

I totally bow to everyone local knowledge of the area and its traffic problems. Dont doubt that they exist for once second guys and gals...sounds like things have changed down there a touch since 1970 when I lived in Mornington ;-)

But...its $700m guys..it just seems a shyte load of money for a road that is only partially inside the metropolitan area...but if I was a local down there Ive no doubt I'd be cheering from the rooftops too so good luck to you...just as I would be if they spent the money doing a few grade separations on level crossings on the Dandenong train line so that MY local main street doesnt take 20 mins to travel 200m in peak hour cos of the congestion caused by boom gates every 2 mins ;-);-)

Back on topic, I very much look forward to whizzing down a little part of it (for free!!) to go to Intra-Club 2010/2011 ;-)

Good stuff this road.

Frankston congestion is disastrous at peak time, and it makes good sense to build this road.

Interestingly, I think it will also provide a great argument to accomodate more people at the northern end of the Mornington Peninsula (remember Melbourne is going to grow by 1 million more people than previously forecast by 2030).

There might also be some benefits for Belvedere Park:

* exposure to passing traffic (unless the freeway is too elevated at that location for the grade separation at Dandenong-Frankston Road)
* easier access via an interchange on Dandenong-Frankston Road (provided there is a full diamond interchange instead of the 3/4 shown on the Melway).

I live in Mornington...this road will be a real bonus....it's got to the stage now if I want to get onto the Frankston freeway I'll drive uop to Seaford Rd and get on there rather than go through Frankston....and the same deal coming back towards Frankston...depending on what time of day...peak hour at the end of the freeway is horrendous...

Interesting that Don Scott has been involved in protests against this road being built as it will go through Moorooduc...this road has been proposed in the Melways for a long time

Bring it on....and quickly

DOn Scott also claimed no interest in Hawthorn winning the G/F- seems he is a bit of a recluse-- will just have to move further away
