Scarlett Says he is happy with loss

Post: # 769269Post thirty-seven!? »

From afl.com:

GEELONG defender Matthew Scarlett says the Cats are far from devastated about losing their first game for the season, and believes the result could even emerge as a blessing in disguise.

Scarlett conceded it was disappointing that the Cats dropped their first game since last year's grand final, but said it meant Geelong could almost slip behind the Saints as premiership favourites.

.....

"We had a good chat in the rooms. We've been on a great run the last couple of years; we don't expect to win every game," he said.

"We're just disappointed we didn't start well. If we had played well and lost, we'd still be happy. But you can't let good sides get five goals up.

.....

"Port Adelaide beat us [in the 2007 season] and we beat them [in that grand final], and we beat the Hawks last year and they then beat us," he said.

"Hopefully that's the trend. Losing tonight is not the end of the [world]; we're just a little bit disappointed with the way we went about it early."

...

Shut-up you twat! We beat you fair-and-square!! And what makes you seem to think you'll see us in the finals, and not get bailed out early... More Geelong getting ahead of themselves rubbish!

They were VERY dark on losing, very evident to see....meant alot to them to rise to our challenge, I think they are reeling just quietly.

I thought his comments were fair enough, they would be upset but not shattered, and indeed they will be able to learn a lot from the game (both sides will).

Did you not see the reaction from them when they siren went and on the ground afterwards? Then the shots in the room of GA Jnr? It was like he lost the Brownlow all over again.

Make no mistake, this HURT them. I was proud of our guys. They sang the song, but it was not with the euphoria I though it would be. Was sung just like it has been after any other win. I think they were just pleased to get the game out of the way so that they can move on.

One of the great things is that even though we one, so far from reading various articles in the media, no one rates us still so we can go along our merry way with our unbeaten streak and still feel no pressure. The pressure will just move onto Geelong to make up for the loss. Love being under rated..... :D

Have to admit after his Harvey sledge, that I was hoping it was him on the stretcher in that last minute.
That would have been Karma.

Instead - my best wishes to Harry Taylor.

After his paying out on Harvey last year...one of the aspects I most enjoyed was Scarlett's obviously crap game.

Today's loss and his crap game will have cut him deeply. Beautiful

After seeing his manner towards Harves, and his alleged comments of overconfidence before last yr's GF, I am fairly sure Scarlett is a tosser of the highest order. I maybe wrong on this, but he seems world class in the tosser stakes

Bit over the top guys. Many on here were saying a close loss would be no bad thing. A great win but nothing more than four points.
Can't wait for the next game.

Didn't get to see anything after the siren. We over here in the west cut straight to Freo playing well for three quarters. Not that I am complaining about getting to watch the match.

I hope to see the footage of the boys singing the song or at least hear their post game comments

They are more than shattered. They came in expecting to win as they have every game over the last couple of years. They are obviously still trying to play the little mind games.

Make no mistake about it they are hurting and hurting bad over this.

Totally agree they are hurting. We will have fired them up. Can't wait to meet them again with Steve Johnson and Ottens in then there will be no excuses.

I can tell you they're hurting in the Geelong camp -they expected a good win over us.

You could feel the same feeling from their supporters who were sitting behind us.

The silence was telling.

You could tell by the over the top reaction of Mooney's when he kicked a goal in the last qtr to close the gap. Geelong really wanted to win this game & sadly failed.
