Lyon only picks favourites....

Post: # 811198Post saintsRrising »

So some keep saying..

But I note today...Dempster out...a supposed Lyon favourite.

Dempster has not gotten back to his pre-injury form, but was given an extended run to do so.

Now his form has not been bad....nor good...though some games on Hodge were good.

Dempster like Gwilt, Geary, Eddy, Max and Co...are on the fringe and could be in or out. All are worthy to play senior football.

No doubt much angst has been gone through on the final 22 make-up...but one thing I am sure of is that "being a favourite" played no part.

What matters is ability and workrate, and this includes the ability to delivera team role.

Yep. Ross has used the expression 'horses for courses' a few times. So, none of the 26 or 27 should count themselves out at this stage. It is nice to have 26 or 27 horses ready willing and able to slot in if required, rather than having to dredge up someone who will disgrace themselves.

Unusual really...

As somebody mentioned in another thread - this is probably the ideal match to play Dempster, given the wealth of small/medium forwards that the Maggies possess (Didak, Davis, Medhurst, Thomas, Lockyer, Wellingham).

<shrug> lyons extended support of rafe and bakes seems to have paid dividends.

throw in armitage and stevens.

if he makes a mistake, he makes a mistake, but credit where credit is due.

Reincarnate agrees. Ross can only give them a chance to perform and a fair chance and if they don't it is not Ross's fault it is the player who didn't perform

There is only so much a coach/coaching group can do

Though they also have Rocca, Anthony and Cloke

Was thinking about this. Did Collingwood drop Wood on the basis they think Gardy won't come up? And then Dempster comes in as the emergency?

Just thinking with all those small forwards it is an odd week to not have Dempster there....

I like the line up as is so hope this is not the case....

Thoughts?

Dawson on Anthony, Blake on Rocca, Fisher on Cloke Gilbert on Medhurst

I hope not.

Blake on Cloke, always seems to get him and do well.

Fisher on Medhurst

Gilbert to either Davis or Didak, whoever's in the forward line.

Utter crap.

In the first place, he was out for most of this year and in the second, was very valuable till injured last year.

Who's the next to be potted by you? Odds on it will be someone recruited since RL righted the ship.

Utter crap.

I think we were heavily weighted to the tall side over recent weeks. Most of our defence is 6,3 plus - but they are adaptable and almost all can play small and tall. I would simply take Max ahead of Dempster. Dempster is about 6,3 by the way! He's hardly more primed for Medhurst than Max. Anyway, all irrelevant as it stands given both aren't playing.

Do we react to that big fat scoop Rocca playing? Zac simply to Rocca, Blake to Anthony and Fish to Cloke? I'd still rather Max in there for Medhurst that might free up Gilbert, but of course you need to move someone out as well.

If they play those 3 up forward, and only Fraser as a ruckman, Gardiner and King will a) have a picnic and b) hurt Fraser something shocking, and the few times they go forward they won't see us for dust.

I don't think Malted Milkhouse will go that way. It won't work and will hasten the succession plan.

It is chock full of issues for Mick. Hero if they win, absolute disaster if Rocca plays and the Saints win. I do feel very comfortable with it though! What I'm not at all rapt with is Dick and Wellingham being dropped. That's absolute garbage. Those two deadbeats would have had max. 8 disposals between them.

How dare the Pies improve their team.

Nope! Dempster was hitting was very good form last year before injury.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Well he is president of one of the biggest clubs in Australia. He has his own game show and was once in charge of channel 9. Maybe he is angling for a job in the media after he finishes coaching.

I like it

Seriously though, Eddy has a big tank, he tackles well and his size makes him an option in that lead up forward type of role. Unfortunately he has never clunked enough marks in that role to really be seen as a threat in the forward line by the opposition.

I would say RL sees hardness, running ability, size and potential in Eddy.

Maybe this year?
