Anyone remember 1992 at the Park?

Post: # 817932Post Bowey Boy »

I remember 1992 and thinking we we were going to fix up the mutts.
I think it again. But this time I am far more confident!!!!!

We would have if there had been an order-off rule.

Won the toss and kicked agasitn the wind as I recall..howling gale and pouring rain

Played stupid posession footy in the 2nd quarter with the gale behind us

Footscray bombed it long in the 3rd..game over

The worst game Ive ever seen R Harvey play for us

whoops - sorry I thought you meant the Cats game in 91 !
I'm getting ahead of myself (again).

Saint66au,
you are right about that Footscray game.
I don't remember much rain but I remember that wind !!!!

We had no idea about the wind.
Our kicking and passing was off.
That 2nd quarter was a disaster.

I remember Chris Grant had a bouncing shot to the main scoreboard that initially was going nowhere near the goals but kept curling back in.

Plugger took a huge mark in the goal square in the last qtr, landed heavily and stuffed himself - but we were stuffed by halftime.

Remember, this was a time when only a quarter of the team could hit a target.

Yes, it was windy and our marking forwards suffered. To make matters worse, Footscray kicked 19 goals 5 behinds. 1992 was not going to be our year. 1991 could have been. It's funny, the relative strengths (marking forwards v runners) haven't changed that much over the years.

Who was that defender who wore gloves that always towelled up Stewie?
Campbell? Foster?

I was there that day too. I recall it being a windy day aswell. The only highlight for the day was probably Pluggers best ever screamer at the scoreboard end.

I was there too. A very disappointing day. Thought we'd win but remember thinking the game was lost midway in the third quarter.

From memory we played badly but were still in it until Winmar got injured.

I was there that day as well.
We didn't play well and not up to what was expected of us.

I was very confident going into the game.

My most vivid memory is how bloody freezing cold that wind was up in the
grandstand. I had a bomber jacket on and thought that would do but the
arctic wind was blowing through there.

Can't say i miss that place much. especially living on the Bellarine Peninsula.

It should also be noted that we also beat the Pies in the first final to qualify for that one. Which is what I'm sure the Doggy supporters will be looking too for extra confidence.

But stats don't dicate the future, the men who take the field do!

CARN YOU F**KING SAINTERS!

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

I remember walking in seeing winmar coming in with one of his kids on his shoulders smiling.

he busted his shoulder during the game.

we just lacked passion, intensity.

I think we kicked a few goals in junk time to flatter the final score.

thoroughly crushed that year after a brilliant opener against the pies.

I think the dogs beat us 3 times that year including the final, and yet we were competitive against WCE, hawks and lost narrowly to the Cats by 2 or 3 points.

IMO had we copped the wet toast we would have beaten them but the dogs just had our measure.

should have moved Plugger to CHF and put Buckets in the square.

I've stil got the footy record from that game, with Kickett on the cover and I think Loewe eating bananas.

Yes I was there that day, a shocker. Freezing cold and I remember the Dogs supporters were passionless. Hated that day.

remember it well. Major damage the week before with Frawley achillies, left David Grant to play on Chris Grant - much smaller and lighter and got smashed.

Were about it at half time as i recall and Atkins had not touched it in first half. Decided to attack out of the square and took Newport off Atkins who tore us a new one in the 2nd half.

The AFL and crappy system killed our chance the year before 1991.

2009 is our time!

Grant killed us.

Lockett was below par on poor service - tool a great grab though.

Their midfield dominated but I don't remember it being wet?

They kicked five to one in the opening term and the game was over then and there, as I recall.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
