Milney's 11-goal game

Post: # 934158Post Zippy »

Back in 2005, most of us remember him kicking 11 against Brisbane.

But I didn't realise that that's now more than any current player has kicked in a game, according to this article:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/t ... 5873016828

which adds some more, richly deserved, recognition for the guy, who we all love despite him being an annoying little sod. His 200 games will feel good for everyone.

I'd be happy if he ever kicked 4 in a big interstate game or a Final.

Loved that game. The chant of Milllllllneyyy, Milllllneyyy reverberated around the ground. It sounded like a English soccer crowd.

I was there!! What a night. Will never forget the milney chant going up around the ground. I think goal no. 10 (or might have been 11) i remember thinking surely not, was well out from a virtually impossible angle. But everything he touched turned to gold that night. I also recall this was the same night i Aker got cleaned up off the square by i think it was hamill?

I was there and it was amazing.....then something like that reminds me that it is after all only a game.

Can we just enjoy and talk about Milnes performances without bringing up his interstate and finals record

In his last 11 interstate games, Milne averages 2.36 goals per game.

In today's HS Milney is compared to Leon Davis, what a joke.

All this article does is show how overrated Davis is and will always be.

As well as the fact his goals have played a significant role in our team making the finals.

I was really happy to read that article from Crawf. It's about time he received a bit of recognition for what he's achieved.

From reading this thread even some of our own supporters can't appreciate how hard it is to average 2 goals a game as a small forward over such a long period of time.

As far as interstate games go, we should not forget his performance at Subiaco against Fremantle when he was cleaned up and suffered a cheekbone fracture yet played the game out (and made significant contributions to a great, hard fought win)

Ah, i love it when people bring up this game :D That game was so good i made a DVD of it, Milney's signed it too so pretty happy with that :P . Never have i seen a player (or team!) dominate a game like that one. A game I'll never forget and the best feeling chanting his name.
Now all i need is that 200 Game Stephen Milne highlights package - seriously, someone get on to it!!

I had never been more confident of a St Kilda team winning the flag after that game.

Valuable lesson learned.
