cruising across the line/keeping some in the tank for the GF

Post: # 987835Post saintspremiers »

hmmm.......

A big issue that the players will have is if they are going to want to play out the game against the Dogs at full pelt, or at, say 80% intensity to leave a bit in reserve should we win and play in the Grand Final.

Yes, I know it's very dangerous to be off your game - we have seen that numerous times this year.

No doubt Ross would like them to go full steam in the first half, and all going well, ease off a bit in the last term.

In fact, IMO, we NEED to have a decent lead up 10 or so minutes in the final term so we can taper off and save ourselves for the Granny, in order to win it.

A hard slog win, like how the Cats game ended up, could cause us big trouble the following week, given the Cats/Pies have an extra day recovery.

We've already witnessed what happens when you try and ease your way through a prelim with your eye on the next week.

2005 prelim- disgrace

Go in cruising......

And you will end up losing......

If we are 60 points up at three quarter time...then ease off...otherwise full-throttle.

disgraceful fitness management, didn't we limp into the Prelim?

Different ballgame now, fit players, proper coach, proper support staff, made the Granny last year.

Let's pretend it's 2010 and not a different era please!

Apples with apples!

Full on.

The advantage compared to last year is that the other Prelim will also be full on, unless the wobbles happen again of course.

They need to go full-on from the start or risk losing. If all goes very well this will put them in a position to relax after three quarter time and save their legs for the following week.

lol...

Forward the tape of that match to the Bulldogs as a prime example of what happens when you play an injured side.

We ran out of bodies before we ran out of effort.

I would not even put it into the players' heads. Make the call from the coach's box only if we get in the position to do so in the first place.

Take nothing for granted.

Respect your opponent!

A couple of observations: in the GF, we didn't really run out of legs in the qtr. Both teams were out on their feet,, so Geelong's easy PF v pies wasn't any type of factor.
Sure we had a tougher game v dogs, but I was proud of our boys in the GF. There were hardly any GF nerves when we had nearly the whole team playing their first one. If Pies get through and are playing us, hopefully a few of their guys will wilt under the GF pressure and microscope.

We'll all hoping to win this prelim comfortably and we should. A 6 goal lead in the last qtr and we can start the management for next week.

Cheers stevie

If the team are 12 goals up with 15 minutes to go they should just hold possesion.

And we should boo them.

No no no

Go full on. The week off that we just had is for resting up and giving us the best shot at both the prelim and then (hopefully) the GF.

Footy can turn around very quickly and anything can happen in finals so unless we are 15+ goals up at 3/4 time, keep the foot to the floor and send a message to our grand final opponent.
