What happened?

I saw footage OTC last night, and it didn't look great.

just that BJ asked
Roos said no

maybe the final grieving- also witht he comment you osted about the rooms after ..
maybe this week is now about moving forward.

Nick had to hold himself together pst G/F to respond to media etc- maybe it did get masked

or maybe we're all looking to hard...
If Lenny and Kosi had been out there.... would it have been diff.

Disagree. Thought what Roo did was entirely appropriate. Some blokes get self conscious about being chaired off at the best of times - let alone after a humiliating loss like that. What was even more galling was at least half our supporters had left the ground by the time the game was finished. Who would he have been chaired off for - the bomber fans?

I remember thinking in the last 1/4 - 'I hope they don't chair Roo off, will be embarassing.'

I had left 10 minutes early.

I refuse to watch crap like that until the end.

I realise he was disappointed about the milestone loss, and yes the fact he had his brother in the rooms consoling him shows it meant a lot.

Dunno, I found it uncomfortable that he refused to acknowledge his own or opposition players.

Perhaps because I believe the captaincy risks being an extra burden to him this year, that yes I am looking too closely at his body language.

I don't blame him. It reminded me of Banger's 350th, we got slaughtered by an average side - both deserved much better.

Who would want to be chaired off after such a demoralizing thrashing?

Not i.

What Roo did was the right thing.

Didn't we beat WCE over there in that one?

Yes. It was a fantastic win at that, first time we had beaten them over there in years.

I think he is reffering to Harvey's 300th against Melbourne where Neitz killed us.

Was a must win. Gilbo smashed Kerr. We skipped away, but they clawed us back. I was escorted out of the Currumbin Surf Club for foul language, but somehow talked my way back in to see the last few minutes incl Dal's sealer.

Ah. Solace in a happy memory.

They needed 3 players to chair him off. One for each leg and one for his slug.

They couldn't find the 3rd volunteer.

I'm picturing McEvoy and Stanley either side with Schneider's head providing requisite support front and centre...

Absolutely agree.

If we had won fair enough. But otherwise, leave these chairing off ceremonies for player retirements.

We are talking extremes here though Doc.

You can choose not be chaired off without turning your back on your teammates and walking off.

Riewoldt became only our 22nd player to ever play 200 games for our club, i think the fans and team mates deserved the opportunity to recognise this great achievement.

Thunda & K, you both make very good points.

I didn't actually see Roo's knock back and no doubt is the main reason for this thread. If he had decided pre game that he didn't want to be chaired off then I don't think there would have been too much fuss.

As always different views are respected :)

Yeah I meant his 300th against Melbourne, not his 350th. Thanks for pointing that out.

Except his 300th was against Port in the Prelim in 04...

You might be thinking of when he broke the club games record in a loss to Geelong in 06

I saw it on On The Couch, and it was no big deal at all. A player approached him (can't remember who) and Roo just shook his head and kept walking up the race. Hardly turned his back on everyone. Just decided that he didn't want to be chaired off.

As for our fans missing the opportunity. Like I said, most of them had left. I know I had 2 minutes before the end, and the saints areas looked skeletal in numbers. Would have compounded the embarrassment as far as I'm concerned.

Well that is pathetic leaving before the end of the game, even if it is only 2 minutes. I was still there an hour after the game. In the same bar downstairs that I was at from half time onwards.
