Former Essendon premiership midfielder Jason Johnson, who is involved in supplying meals to several clubs and is very much in the know when it comes to health and nutrition, wasn't surprised when told about the rumour.

Johnson said beetroot juice helped boost the body's ability to carry oxygen.

He said a recent experiment with cyclists had improved their endurance and their times.

But Johnson was not aware of the Melbourne clubs he supplied meals to using the drink.

Jason supplies the saints meals...

AFL could also be American football league so I assume they checked it was coming to australia.

Never heard of an American Football League.

They call their gridiron comp the NFL.

AFL (Arena Football League) - is the highest level of professional indoor American football in the United States

One of the signs of EPO and anabolic use is a growing of the jaw and facial extremities, Luke Ball anyone? A rapid increase in muscle development from a guy in his mid career is also an unusual occurrence, I would say that Collingwood must have had raised levels because of the magic of beetroot and high altitude which has a similar effect obviously.

Do players still eat lollies after games? I remember footage a few years ago of peckett et al doing the warm downs eating lollies. Great stuff.

Well, beetroot sounds good. Could deliver us a premiership this year. We also need to research other foods that assist in the removal of lactic acid from the muscles. I think bitter melon can do this? Could have helped us recover for grand final 2 last year against the EPO junkies collingwood.

I remeber in about...1997....colostrum was the next big thing. Crows were one of the first clubs to get their players onto it. Flags.

Also, I'm pretty sure the NFL was originally called the AFL.
