I can't help but shake my head and simply hope that next week it'll all karmically turn around.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Nice to see the telecast highlight a stack of terrible missed Saints frees...Ray being slung without the ball, Milne being dragged down without the ball, Armo getting smashed with a forearm into next week, etc. Unfortunately, no-one at AFL HQ takes any notice until the media latches onto it.Old Mate wrote:What's new? I believe that would be the third match this season where we have come out in front on frees. Think we've tied in 3 more? Guess our players just don't know the rules....
(Yes, that was sarcasm. Just in case anyone missed it.)

thought the last was fine - it's normally the way - they leave the fifty- fifties alone.Dan Warna wrote:I thought we got the general run of the umpiring after 1/2 time...
so why can't they do that all game?
re the third - missed a bit of it as i was too pissed off at the umpiring.

the thing that gave me the shite's was the way they payed very very soft ones , yet let blatent one's go !
And that was for us !!!
e.g. I sit on level 2 and in the last saw joey throw the ball out , resulting in a goal to us , yet 2 umpires within 30 metres missed it .
I know they do a thankless job , however sometimes I think they should spend more time at training on theory , rather than practising their pouncee stylised hand gestures.

All in all the umps had absolutely no influence on the game, so it doesn't really matter tonight, BUT it must be noted that we are certainly out of favour with the umpires this year, and this problem needs to be addressed before it costs us dearly. If that means someone from the club has to go down to AFL headquarters and blow Jeff Geischan then so be it, though I must say I'm glad it's not me.

th umps did all they could to get Freo back into the game in the 2nd quarter.
Plucked frees from nowhere time and time again.

My observation is that you'll see this phenomenon in many games each year. I don't think it's a deliberate thing or aimed at any particular club - but when one team works it's way into the ascendency (and this was the case last night even though it was never really shown on the scoreboard) there's a period of time when the 50/50 decisions go to the underdog. This often gives the losing team a couple of important breaks and, if they capitalise, an opportunity to change the momentum and mount a comeback. Once it evens up the mindset changes. It can be just a few impostant decisions but it often swings games.Enrico_Misso wrote:th umps did all they could to get Freo back into the game in the 2nd quarter.

The worst one was the above mentioned one that gifted freo their first goal.
The umps actually anticipated a front on clash but it didn't happen but they gave it anyway!!! No wonder BJ went ballistic!!
watch the replay of it - it was play on!
And don't even mention Armo's perfectly legal bump on the soft piece of s*** Pavlova
