Raph has to go...

Post: # 1134639Post Captain Impossible »

I'm sure I'll be slammed for this post but the reality is that he's just not good enough. He made so many bad decisions tonight and cost us badly. No awareness, no speed and poor skills. I wish him well but his place in the side can not be justifed any longer.

Well done on recovering from a shocking start, but we're no longer a force. Time to rebuild.

While I agree with your first comment I dont with the second.

Frankly there are many many woeful teams in the AFL, at least 8, hence we are only really contending with 10 teams next year for a finals spot, and who would back against us with Roo, Goddard, Lenny, Dal, Fisher, etc still playing with us?

We are a long way from woeful imo.

He would not get a game at any other side in the league. Disposal, awareness, speed, effort all rubbish

Has about 1 good game every 15.

Time to go

You mean like BJ when he missed Kosi bi 2 feet from 25 meters away? Or Roo who missed a set shot when we really needed one? Or half the side who couldn't hit the side of a barn from 10 meters?

But hey let's single out Raph

Poor game after a good patch. Unfortunately not on his own there tonight.

His courage can't be argued tho, has been willing to put the body on the line during the last month. Considering he spent so much time out last year with a similar injury to Roo, I can't see why we would delist him plenty ahead of him for that. Also with 4 retirements already wouldn't think we would then delist more than 6 more or trade.

Difference is that BJ, Kosi and Roo are proven players, raph is not

Ok

We can defend him by saying others plaued bad too....so he has an excuse

Or we can look at the 8-10 stuff ups he actually made....his decision making and confidence levels are two inconsistent

Last week he was great....tonight appauling

I'd rather someone gets caught trying to take the game on, than do nothing about it at all.

Least he tried to surge the ball forward, love to see the stats for anyone else who had a running bounce in the first half, if we had any at all?

I haven't seen such a flat footed half from the boys in quite some time, I guess the fight back of the season caught up.

Yes lets start the Raph bashing he had more players tonight worse than him. I would be trading Zac first, he is a one trip pony.

In order to cut: (I don't say trade as market value would low across the board)

Polo
Ray
Raph
Gram
Jones

We simply have too many players with awful footskills and or decision making. Most times, it is both.

I'm over it. Get rid of 'em and give the other blokes a chance.

Adding to the above list the retirements:

Baker
Gards
Blake?

And WTF happened to Dal in the last month??????

The point is - the above guys (not including Dal) have had their chances, and for us to improve, others Must at Least be given a chance.

I know they're injured, but hey, I hope Pelchen adds Mini and Eddy to the list.

Time to trim this ship.

I disagree. Yes these guys are known champions and leaders but he team comes from 18 players on the ground at any time. The problem relates to the effort and skills of the bottom 6-8 players on the list.

I think with the bottom 6 not being equivalent to other top 8 teams, the better players are tagged regularly.

St. Kilda has always been loaded with 4-6 champion players even in 1966. The result is intermittent performance and unsustained long term success. Look at the make up of Essendon 2000, Brisbane 2001-2003, Geelong 2007-2011 they are clubs with great skills balance.

Look at St. Kilda 2004, this was also good team youth and skills balance but unsustained defensive effort.

Look at St Kilda 2009 champions and sustained effort by second stringer.

2010 and 2011 we were getting to be an aging team without key position replacements coming in. The club will continue to wane unless this is addressed.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

This can be applied to half the side tonight. Let's not single out one player.

I thought he did okay. We always ignore the good and highlight the not so good.

I believe Jones must stay. He has presence and tags well. He also tackles well and is one of the better players to gain clearances. In the top 12 in my opinion.

Dont disagree with teh other though although Blake might go one more year in a specialist duty.

Mate, I'll PM with you with impeccable spelling if that's what you're after.

The response was exactly what the original sentiment deserved.

Would keep Blake in front of Jones in a heart beat.

Jones offers nothing now and will never damage the opposition.

Sure he gets it plenty but hell I could go out there and knock the ball around with a pitching wedge too.

Blakey has one more year in him. Defends well.

Jones on the other hand is becoming a liability. Sad but true, I like the guy. Heart of a champion. Skills of a goat.
