ShareCOLLINGWOOD assistant Scott Watters continues his storming run toward appointment as St Kilda’s new senior coach as the Saints enter full interviews for short-list candidates for their top job.

PrevNextWith former Sydney and Western Bulldogs senior coach Rodney Eade out of the running after his appointment as director of coaching at Collingwood, it appears other Saints contenders have also pulled out.

Watters is expected to now joust for St Kilda’s top appointment with Saints playing legend and club games record-holder Robert Harvey as well as former Geelong playing stars Ken Hinkley and Leigh Tudor and highly respected Carlton assistant Alan Richardson.

Hawthorn assistant Leon Cameron is believed to have withdrawn his interest in the Saints senior appointment, while another Hawks specialist coach Adam Simpson is also considered too raw yet to be a head coach.

It appears Cameron and Simpson have remained firmly committed to continuing as vital assistants to Hawks head coach Alastair Clarkson as Hawthorn continue their mounting premiership drive within the next season or two.

Simpson, 35, retired as a North Melbourne great just two years back after 306 games and is understood to have committed to at least another full season alongside Clarkson before sincerely seeking a senior appointment.

Simpson could still interview with Saints officials.

Cameron was the original front-runner to replace Eade at the Bulldogs, until Dogs management pulled somewhat of a surprise with appointment of highly regarded assistant Brendan McCartney from Essendon.

Watters, 42, is due to meet with the Saints coaching selection sub-committee within days of the Pies losing the 2011 grand final to Geelong.

The former West Coast, Sydney and Fremantle midfielder and Pies defensive coach under for the past two seasons under departing great Mick Malthouse, has stormed into front-running calculations for the Saints appointment.

Saints powerbrokers are expected to possibly complete their coaching interview process this week, with an announcement possibly even before the end of AFL trade period between October 10-17.

Watters has been defensive coch with the Pies under Malthouse.

Part-time Pies backline coach and former St Kilda star defender Max Hudghton is understood to have already offered a glowing endorsement of Watters to his old club's coaching selection panel.

Just thought I'd edit out the irrelevant parts of that article. Looks interesting.

Watters/Harvey/Hinkley/Tudor/Richardson/Simpson

Or in order of personal preference: Tudor/Watters/Richardson/Hinkley/Harvey/Simpson

Told you Clarky. Me scared of you or your wife. I would be more scared of Santa than you two. If I had been there I would have at least sat with the SS guys. They may have liked it where as you went and didnt even have the courage to meet them. And we all know why. You have no balls.

An absolute joke of a website with no credibility. It's some wanker who reports popular rumours as fact in the hope of some becoming true so he can lay claims to being the first to 'report this news'. Of course most of the time he's wrong and makes up s*** to backpedal.

The knob jockey picture puzzle was good.

Just out of interest. Hawks assistants I simpson and cameron- are both pretty good. Hope we score a food coach and a decent assistant as well.
