D**khe*d......

Possibly an element of truth but not his position to say it. He's been screwing us for years.

Pretty sure it is his position to look after the stadium though so if there is something mentioned that is negaitive then he is going to comment especially since the reason for our loss really is mainly due to our sponsorship.

The man can't help himself.
He's protecting the stadium owners' revenue streams, but there's no need for him to be a pig at the same time.
Etihad IS a money-pit, everyone knows it, Collo knows it, but you'll never
catch him saying it.

The c$)t is right but should've used a bit of spin to make it polite.

This from the CEO that led Carlton into one of their worst debt filled periods?

It has been stated on forums before that our style of play has been unattractive to watch. Personally I don't agree, but then I'm a die hard supporter and I much prefer winning games, playing finals and competing in Grand Finals to finishing 9th of 10th.
But it can't really be denied that to stimulate excitement any footy team needs to become a little more attacking. An example I can think of was the Adelaide game at Etihad. We should have kicked at least 25 goals and won by 20 goals, rather than 19 and winning by 17. The players should have been freed up a bit.
Attractive football attracts neutrals who might become supporters who night in turn becoame members. It can also create a buzz which can attract lucrative sponsorships
However I do think the club has come under unfair scrutiny over the past two seasons regarding our dour game plan and shut down footy, which I would argue is just contested ball.
Hopefully Watters can change the game plan quickly enough for the team to shock the footy world in 2012 in much the same way as we did in 2009 and 97. If we can get a jump on our competitors the joint will get jumping again, I'm sure of it.

Collo's just a crook, we all know it. Just look at his history. Lives out of town so he goes home for a holiday each day.

"To me it sounds like they expected a lot after finishing in the Grand Final for the second year running and they haven't been able to deliver that through their marketing by generating the revenue'

Truth.

Anyone we don't like says it, and we're up in arms.

GT said as much last year, why can't the Saints sell stadium signage, make corporate dollars, find (uncontroversial) sponsors?

I actually thought Nettles was well equipped in this department, doesn't he have a marketing background?

I do understand that it's hard to promote a club where opposition supporters boast that they turned off 'saints footy' on the whole.

However I worry now that with all this positive press, an unprecedented amount of exposure, the sponsors backdrop being wheeled out at every opportunity....

Still doesn't seem to be any good news?

It is true...that we require a major sponsor and two GF appearances to make any profit under the current stadium deal! Collo just spilt the beans on himself.

I know he's Carlton and that means we're supposed to hate him.

But maybe he does have a point. Personally I think the CEO and the board have to be held to account for such a significant financial loss and it's a bit of a cop out to blame it on the stadium deal.

There's no doubting the Seaford move was expensive, our style of play was not the most attractive and the way we handled the facebook photo affair and subsequent fallout was a PR disaster.

Charming on a family forum

By the way, I have no time for Collins at all - it would be good if the Board could explain how the loss came about.....

Comments like Collins' regarding Seaford show how out of touch with the footy-going public he really is.
For most people, living between 30 and 40 kilometres out of the CBD (from the GPO in the old language) is a simple fact of life and makes basic good economic sense. Most people who attend football matches - not all, but most - are part of a family which includes children in some way. And a lot of those people live in Seaford, Cranbourne (City of Casey), Waverley, Craigieburn, etc.
These people go to the footy too, and this why forward thinking clubs such as Melbourne, Hawthorn, Richmond and St Kilda make these types of places their respective bases.
He has just shown himself to be what he really is - an elitist. Oh, and please stop calling him Collo - I hate it when these corporate types and their stockbroking mates try to sound all blokey. Call him Collins - and remember what he said about us in 84 - Let em rot!

Whilst I've got very little time for Collins as a human being, I hate to admit it...

He's got a huge point.

Our board does need to explain where the money went.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
