Who is StK best Player in 2013??
Really hard to say IMO???
If Goddard was still a Saint, I would say him without hesitation for 2013, mainly due to age/ability and potential to go up a level still... But he ain't a saint
So who is
Hayes.... Was no 1 last year, can he be at 33?? After years of punishment and two recos, wouldn't surprise me
Milne.... Also 33 and only a small fwd, but could be the best in his position in the AGL still
Dal..... 29, still quality and has been for ten years, has. He ever been the best
Fisher..... Still one of the best big defenders in the AFL, was the best for 3 or 4 years, dual B&F
Riewoldt... In his prime 2002-2010 was probably #1 for most of those years, he is 80% the player he was.. Still might make him 1
Joey..... Underrated, has been a top 3 player behind Lenny and Roo many times
Armitage.... He will be our bolter IMO... But not sure he would oust any of the above unless the got injured or dramatically dropped off
Steven..... Has showed real highlights and can break games open
Mac....... Could develop
Dempster...... In the AFL best 22, bolter in 2012
Gwilt...... Can he get back to 2011 form, and do a Dempster this year??
My order, all things bein equal.... On the injury front
Riewoldt (still),Dal, Hayes, Fisher, Armitage, Montagna, Dempster, Milne, Steven, Gwilt

I think your reasoning is sound.Beno88 wrote:Your best player is the one the opposition worry about the most, that is without doubt, Nick Riewoldt.
And therefore I think your nomination is spot on. At least for now.
For St Kilda's sake let's hope that by the end of the year, if not sooner, another player emerges who causes opposition sides even more concerns than a veteran status Nick

He just reads the play so well and is a smarter footballer than most.BigMart wrote:BC... You believe McEvoy??
Big call
I think the addition of Hickey is going to be important, too, both to share the load and to push Ben to reach his full potential. You don't want him having to do it all himself.
In tandem they'll be able to dominate games down the track.

I see the best as probably Sam fisher as he came on in the Sydney game and just completely changed the dynamic of the game. If he's not our best he's our most important.
Improvers from Saad, Armo and steven- all could take the next step to be our best with out too much trouble. Rooey is probably never going to dominate as he used too.

Well apparently Arryn Siposs has surpassed BJ in his 16 AFL games, so I guess it's him
NDS for mine, still probably tagged first, most damagng with the ball, very good in contested situations now.

I don't think Roo will be running as much this season and may hang around closer to goals, with Maister moving around the half forward area contesting and taking grabs. If Armo can play as well as he did last week and do it all season ,then he may be our best for 2013

i don't know why but i have got to the point with Bigmac where my patience is wearing thin. He's good around the ground but probably no better than Blake, he is an average tap ruckman so far and needs to just take a massive leap forward this year. Guys like Maric and Bellchambers have come in and made massive differences at their clubs because they win hit outs as well as being handy around the ground. I have to say Hickey looks the more natural at this stage to me. I hope I'm wrong and he blitzes this season but I haven't seen any more evidence yet.

Maybe Sam Gilbert in a new wing type role (assuming he can learn to kick)

I'd also say Fisher. He is a consistently elite performer in any role he is given. Has no weaknesses
Re: Who is StK best Player in 2013??
Not sure who's best, but I reckon Joey will win the B&F this year.BigMart wrote:Joey..... Underrated, has been a top 3 player behind Lenny and Roo many times

Is Dempster that flexible? He can play on small & medium forwards, but he hasn't done much forward, done a little bit of tagging… not really a mid though.lloyd21 wrote:Sam Fisher
Best Flexible Player - Dempster
Re: Who is StK best Player in 2013??
It would be good to see one of our younger players take the mantle of best player, or at least win the B & F this year. I reckon Armo has it in him to step it up another level. Steven too.

Re: Who is StK best Player in 2013??
Just from the NAB games so far I can see him getting a little more time further from goal with his explosive speed and ball gathering ability. He will still have rests forward but can see him being rotated from the midfield more. Last year he and Milne were both stay at home deep small forwards and with adding TDL I believe we might be seeing more of Ahmed away from there.felix wrote:Saad ..has the potential be the most damaging small forward in the comp I think he is in for a big year.
Re: Who is StK best Player in 2013??
The play that he had on the weekend near the wing on the boundary line suggests he has all of the traits to play there - with a question mark over endurance currently - but that can be trained!!!

Re: Who is StK best Player in 2013??
Our best player is our best footballer.. Not most important to structure, best leader, outstanding athlete etc...
Roo is our best footballer, by quite a margin IMO... He is an all time AFL great, where guys like Lenny, Dal and Chips are confined to being St.Kilda greats... Roo encompasses the whole comp... And still has a year or 2 to perform near his very best, which is above and beyond any other player we have can match...
I'm hoping for a return to form, similar to Pavlich's second half of last season... Just a machine that, fully fit, hit his straps and put daylight between himself and his teammates.. Pav's a year or 2 older, so it's not out of the question..
If he hits a purple patch of form, fully fit, we are still likely to be a fearsome unit... So much depends on him and his output, always has and always will...
